As a major medicare part D provider Cigna medicare rx routinely hides previously accepted 'prior authorizations' (a method to delay or deny medicine coverage) from their patients, doctors and even customer service representatives forcing doctors offices to re-file 'prior authorizations' that were already filed and accepted causing 'gridlock' in order to delay and often (when doctors offices cant keep up for multiple requests and re-requests from multiple patients) cause drugs not to be paid for by them.
They do this more often with the more expensive drugs regardless if they are in the plan's formulary or not.
I have experienced this first hand, it is common knowledge among doctors and espescially PHARMACISTS who are routinely frustrated with these illegal (hidden behind legalities)practices.
Cigna medicare rx customer service representatives DO NOT have complete access to previously accepted prior authorizations on their workstations. The complete (true) information is only accessible on a seperate computer by supervisors only.
When a formulary or non formulary medicine is accepted to be covered by cigna medicare rx the patient is often ONLY notified by telephone leaving them with no hard copy proof that the prior authorization has been accepted. The medicine will be paid for for a few months and then at some point when the patient goes to the pharmacy to refill the medicine they are told by the pharmacist that cigna medicare rx requires a 'prior authorization' for the medicine (which in all reality has already been filed by the patients doctor and accepted by cigna medicare rx).
NOTE: When asked, my pharmacist has told me [quote] this is not uncommon[end quote]
The pharmacist then sends the information to the patients doctors office (was already done months ago and typically already overwhelmed and short staffed), the patient goes home WITHOUT the medicine (because the actual cost is prohibitive), calls cigna medicare rx customer service representative and 'lo and behold' there is no record of a prior authorization. The doctors office adds it to the already stacked pile of prior authorization requests and in sometimes days (but most likely weeks) the prior authorization is RE-FILED and may or may not be accepted.
When pressed a customer service representative will alert a supervisor and after a time on hold (checking on a differrent computer) the supervisor may actually find evidence of the original prior authorization but even then the [patient is often told that the original one was "just temporary" or "requested amout exceeds formulary" or "drug not covered" or" drug in same class" as one already paid for so "for your own safety" a prior authorization is required. ON VERY RARE OCCASIONS the drug is temporarily paid for (this is rare).
Cigna medicare rx is not listed on the BBB website (go and search). BBB has not responded to 3 requests to list the company. Sure, there are plenty of "cigna's" BUT NO CIGNA MEDICARE RX.
There is not even one other report here at RIPOFFREPORT!!!???

Cigna medicare rx DOES NOT HAVE AN EMAIL ADDRESS FOR CONTACT. The only way to contact them and have proof that you did so is by a NOTARIZED CERTIFIED MAIL. (very convenient for them)
I know this from my own searches AND by calling them, getting a supervisor and after awhile they CANT FIND ONE EITHER.
Using this method of 'hiding' prior authorizations and IN FACT even the whole concept of REQIUIREING ONE (like the doctors order is not good enough) ILLEGALLY DELAYS AND DENYS LIFE SAVING MEDICINE to eligible patients with PART D MEDICARE.
I have singled out cigna medicare rx because they are my provider and YES, I have suffered greatly by these policies but I DO SUSPECT that this practice may be system wide and in the end THE US TAXPAYER IS ALSO THE VICTIM.
