Columbia House DVD ripoff: Beware Deceptive Emails! They will get you! Terre Haute Indiana Nationwide
I signed up for the Columbia House DVD club and immediately began trying to fulfill my committment to purchase the required DVD's so I could in turn cancel my account. I had 2 DVD's left to purchase, and received an email from Columbia House stating that they were having a big sale, with free shipping, and ANY movies purchased during the sale that were on a special list would count towards my fulfillment requirements. Sounded good to me---2 DVD's to fulfill my contract for about $20 with no shipping charges, so I ordered them. I went online to check my account, which stated that my obligation to them was taken care of as far as what I needed to purchase. I called them, first of all-because I showed they had shipped me a DVD on 7/22/05 which I never received...the very short and rude customer service rep told me he didn't care what the web-page said, the DVD wasn't actually shipped until 9/8/05 (big time lapse there). I said, OK, well that must be the one I returned the other day, please cancel my account. He then proceeds to tell me that I have not fulfilled my obligation to them because I didn't purchase 5 DVD's since I sent the last one back. I told him about the online sale and he of course tells me he knows nothing about that sale because it never existed and there is no record of it on my account...geesh-what a surprise...they are forcing me, under threat of collection now, to buy another DVD, when the last set of 2 I purchased from them on the website via an email that said the purchase would count...they LIED and conveniently have no record of ever sending out the mass-mailing to their customers...nice way to do business...and, BTW---their customer service reps SUCK!!!!
