I agree, if money is tight (and when isn't it?), use cloth. The only time I used disposable is when we were traveling. Takes more time, but saves a lot. And when diaper days are done, you have "shop rags"

If you are so hard up for money that you cannot pay the membership fee, then why are you buying the most expensive diapers? I know that the Costco brand is only $19 for a case. Why spend $10 more? I'm just wondering.

According to your thought process, since my brother is a member of a health club, I should get to use the facility whenever I want. This doesn't make sense. This is a MEMBERSHIP - therefore the only people with the "right" to shop there are the people who pay for the privilege to do so. It's time to grow up, get your life together, and hopefully show your newborn by example that productive members of society earn their way in life...it's not handed to them nor are they entitled to what they have not earned.

In your opening paragraph, you state "the prices here are not wholesale, just huge bundles at same supermarket prices". If this is true, why were you shopping at Costco? Is Costco the only retailer near you that sells diapers? I doubt it. Why not go to Wal-mart? In my area most prices are SIGNIFICANTLY less than supermarkets. Case in point, as Sherri mentioned, meat. Publix charges roughly double what Costco does on "New York Strip" tenderloin steaks. Costco keeps their prices low because they charge a membership fee. Without the membership income, which is greatly overshadowed by the average annual savings realized by a regular shopper, they're prices would have to be increased. I am sure the other "warehouses" you mention which do not charge a membership fee also do not offer the same low prices or commitment to service. Just because you are down on your luck doesn't entitle you to a free pass to anywhere you want to go. Costco happens to be very active in community support. Costco warehouses give generously to local police and fire associations and take up collections for Children's Miracle Network, United Way, American Red Cross and other disaster relief funds related to hurricanes, typhoons, monsoons, tsunamis and other natural disasters that have been so prevalent in years past.

You know, that thought crossed my mind, the whole sarcasm thing, but reading some of the reports on this site, you wouldnt believe what some people think they are entitled to.

His only God given right is to be alive, and in some countries he wouldn't even have that. So you mean to say that someone who gets money from the government anyways and has a child should be the exception to the rule??? He used the term "we" had a newborn. There are 2 people that have the opportunity to make it work but yet decide to complain about their situation instead. Its all about money to some people. He has already been handed more than most people and still continues to b***h about it? You two obviously dont understand the concept of running a business. If you dont like the rules, you dont do business with them. Im sorry I cant break that down any further, so its easier for you to understand. I can see that you're one of "those" people too, who think that stuff should be handed out to them without doing something in return. Make me understand where you are coming from, please. You guys are the types of people I love to tell no. No amount of arguing will make anyone want to help you, especially with that attitude. I wont even waste my breath telling you why. Is it a God given right not to pay taxes too, because we are the ones supporting the person who first posted this site? I dont want to pay for his diapers, but rules are rules. In order to support myself, I have to support a million other people who probably could support themselves. You sir need a lesson in ethics, and Im sure there are many people out there willing to help you on that.

It's his God given right to buy diapers at a discount even if Costco's rules and regulations say he can't. He shouldn't haven to pay for a membership like the rest of us either. All those other companies like electric, gas, phone and others too.

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of people in this world who want something for nothing. If you dont have a membership, you can't buy their products, period. By reading your post, you say your sister has the membership, and later on you say its a family membership. If she had to be with you to make a purchase, you clearly werent on the membership and you knew it. You think rules should be bent because you are broke, or that an entire meal should be compensated because they forgot your butter. I work for a company where you have to have a membership to use our services, but we allow non members to use them ONLY if the member is present. I have so many people who call every day and get mad at me because they cannot use their grandmothers, aunts, sisters membership. You can yell at me and tell me how unfair it is and how bad your life sucks, but that wont change the rules. Suck it up and do what it takes. Use your time researching for other ways to deal with your money problem instead of taking it out on the people at Costco. When I was a baby and my mother didnt have the money for "throw away" diapers, she used the cloth kind, you know the ones that you can wash and reuse. The act of washing dirty diapers may not be something you want to do, but if you were that desperate its something you should consider. It may not save you time, but it will save you money, which seems to be what your complaint is really about.

In fact, one of their terms of membership is that you not allow others to use your card. It is okay for a member to TAKE a nonmember, but allowing someone to use your card can actually get the card confiscated and the membership suspended or revoked. People abused this for a long time, which is now why a member's photo is on the card. On most items (especially meat), their prices are much better than retail and their meat quality is far better than Safeway or Albertson's. We get a rebate voucher every year as well.
