November 2009 we booked a couple of day tours with CSC who quickly charged our credit card the full amount of almost $1,000 then the volcano hit the European coastline. We tried to rebook our services to which CSC responded that they wish they could provide more details but that it was not in their control and we lose.

In response to Matt's take on the situation I would like to provide a detailed overview of what happened from our perspective.

Matt booked a London to Paris Day Tour which once booked is a non-refundable and non-changable tour (as explained in our terms and conditions and in the description on the tour page), it is non-refundable and non-changable which means that it is a lot cheaper to purchase due to these limitations and these limitations are clear in the Tour Description on the site and in the Terms and Conditions which you must accept before you are able to book. Unfortunately, because of the Ash Cloud that effected European Air Travel we were notified that Matt's party were unable able to take the Day Tour but unfortunately because the Eurostar service was not affected we were still charged for the service as it took place. Matt had also booked another tour with us for Windsor, Stonehenge & Oxford and we did refund the full cost immediately for this tour that was booked (as this was a tour with a 24 hour cancellation policy). We did also advise Matt that he contact his Travel Insurance company with regards to gaining the money back for the Paris Tour section and that we would provide support with this. All this was all within a couple of hours of the initial email Matt sent to cancel the bookings due to no longer being able to travel, so we were as proactive as we could have been in trying to meet Matt's needs.

Much later in time Matt then then raised this issue with his credit card company who inturn raised a chargeback, we explained to the credit card company the details of what happened, took them through the booking process and the tour description and terms and conditions and they found in our favour.

I am dissappointed that Matt felt that was is a rip off and poor service by ourselves but I dis-agree with him, unfortunately things like this do occur from time to time and that is what Travel Insurance is there to protect the consumer against and we have assisted other customers with regards to claiming money back from their Travel Insurance Company for similar situations that are outside of our control. We offered our help here with Matt regarding going down the Travel Insurance path but never received any response to this offer of support, so I therefore assume that he had not taken Travel Insurance out.
