to all those that are interested in opening your own retail store, do not open a dollar store, especially one from dollar store service aka discount retail store services. they are an absolute ripoff!! i opened mine with them a year ago and have regretted it ever since. everything about how they operate felt wrong but as a 1st time business owner i figured they knew what they were doing so i followed their lead not realizing the entire time they were just lining their pockets. they gave me bad advice on leasing the store space, on how to order merchandise, and what to do if sales started dipping. what i found to be their worst offense was the amount they spent building out my store! it was only after i closed my doors that i began researching how much drss spent on the fixtures and shelving as well as signage for indoor and out door. it was a ridiculous amount! display racks they could have purchased brand new for less than $300, they ended up spending nearly a $1000 for! almost all of the store shelvings were overpriced. even completely unnecessary items like indoor signage alone cost over $6000. why? why do you need to spend that type of money to build out a dollar store! overall all it probably cost around $20,000 just for all the shelving, displays, and fixtures, this isn't even including the merchandise! the merchanidse that were pre-ordered for us were crap. i had no say in what was to be ordered, even though it was my store. i opened my store in july of 2013. by the time i closed it the next following year, there were still items that had not been sold since they ordered it for me. no lie. now i practically have to give it away for free and still i don't think anyone would want it. there's so much more that i'd like to tell anyone who's interested in drss but i'll stop here. if anyone wants the real scoop on the drss process, please email me @[email protected].
i have never been so dissatisfied with a company before in my life. drss has pretty much ruined my dreams of ever owning my own retail store.

Jon La Fronz I guess your getting Desperate for new buyers if you’re posting on ripped off You have lost millions of dollars because of me and I love it I still get calls from people interested in opening a store and I talk them out of it I will continue to try to close down your business and talk people out of losing their life savings

Glad to hear from you 8yrs after my store closed down. Thanks for the quick response. Wow, What can I say except I hope you get what's coming to you. Your company has hurt so many people that You should be in jail and your company closed down. If there is any positive that came out of my experience with your company it's that I will never trust charletons like you ever again. May god have mercy on your soul.

Dollar Store Set up--buying inventory to maintain an acceptable average cost of goods

Since 1993, we have set up over 4,600 retail stores for individuals around the United States and overseas. Buying merchandise regularly ( so your store is always well stocked) and intelligently ( maintaining an acceptable average cost of goods by diligently buying across ALL categories in the store) is what we teach in training, however only the owner can actually execute these good practices. In our system, every final decision is made by the store owner, location, merchandise orders, etc. To touch on a few points in this post--the interior signage is first quality ( see our website, dollarstoreservices.com for many examples) and the cost does not remotely approach the $6,000 noted in the posted. Our store fixtures are first quality, and designed specifically for our business. We assist every one of our owners in each step of opening and operating their businesses, however we cannot guarantee that the owner will be actively involved in the business and follow those best practices learned in training.
