Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
About a month and a half ago I received a bill from EarthLink in the amount of $23.16. I was confused because I have never subscribed to Earthlink. I put in the pile of things to deal with later and forgot about it until I received a phone call wondering when I was going to pay my EarthLink bill. I explained to the person that I was not a subscriber to that service and never had been. He told me that I was not the first person that had told him that. He was working for a company that called delinquent accounts and had no access to the company.

I was quite upset by the phone call, but he assured me that he noted my response and the company should correct there records.

Not truely believing that I did let it go until I received the second bill, for internet service that I did not receive, from a company I did not contract with.

Of course, I received the bill in Fridays mail and could not contact them until Monday. I called them and for some reason they could not verify my account unless they called me back. They finally called back after 20 minutes. I explained everything and they said they would cancel my account and they were sorry for the mix-up.

I didn't let it go there. I wanted to know how a company could bill and individual without a contract and DEMANDED to know how this happened. After holding for 5 minutes he told me that my account was purchased from (WI Rural Internet) in the buy out of that company.

I had cancelled my service with WI Rural Internet 21 months before the first bill came from EarthLink. How is it possible that Earthlink can bill me after that period of time. At best this business practice is questionable. I beleive it to be criminal.

I am sure Wisconsin is not the only state that has companies being bought up by Earthlink. Is this a normal practice of the company? If so it should be thoroughly investigate for questionable business practices

Earthlink - sent new bill for 2 months unsolicited HELP

#6Author of original report

Sun, November 06, 2005

Well I was assured that they would cancell my account which I never requested in the first place. Earthlink activated an account that I had cancelled with WI Rural Internet 21 months ago. On Monday, October 31 2005 I contacted Earthlink and was assured that this account would be cancelled immediately. Well I received another bill Saturday Nov 5, this time for two months worth of service that I did not request and have not received. I would appreciate suggestions on how to end this harassment, keep this from my credit rating and stop companies like this from tricking other possible victims into paying for services they are not providing HELP PLEASE
