On Christmas Eve my dog was attacked while outside on a bathroom break. I rushed him to the Emergency and Specialty Animal Hospital on Acton Road. The staff was rude, unprofessional and after being LIED TO, treated awful and overcharged $315.00 (Total bill was 765.00) I ended up having to go to another vet and have him redo the botched stitches they put in my dog. I wish I had googled them before I took my dog there.
They demanded immediate payment even though I had only been informed of $450.00 of the charges. They threatened to let a staff member have my dog if I didn't pay them 765.00 on the spot. Two of the staff members appeared to be out of it, the guy who treated him had blood shot eyes and the young receptionist was shaking so much I couldn't even read the paper she was showing me.
I don't mind paying for excellent service and professional treatment, but I do mind paying for inferior service and rude unprofessional staff. After googling them I see I am lucky my dog made it out alive. Please report them to ripoffreport, getsatisfaction, the Alabama Vet Board, National Vet Board and American Vet Board if you have had a bad experience so we can stop them from doing this to others.

Sorry to inform you that you are very mistaken, it would be nice if you knew what you were talking about. Unfortunately you dont.
Dr. Mccann is an employee of the emergency center, he is not a full time veteranarian there but does fill in on occasion. HE IS NOT A SPECIALIST. But a very great doctor.
Ive seen your name pop up on a good many of these sites NITSA, im sorry for your loss. But all of the people at the emergency clinic are very passionate about animals, and the extra charge is probably for the emergency value considering they are open and ready at all hours of the night to respond to your situation.
thank you David for your encouragment, its nice for them to hear every once in awhile.

Emergency and Specialty are two separate identities; Emergency has its own doctors and Specialty has board-certified specialists. Sheyster is talking about the Specialty doctors who misdiagnosed and caused her companion's death, not the Emergency doctors. I had the same BAD experience as Sheyster with the Specialty doctors who misdiagnosed, mistreated, and caused my companion's horrible but avoidable death! There are other websites with veterinary ratings where more people reported bad experiences with this Specialty hospital doctros (vetpeeves.com)

On Feb 8th 2009 my wife and I took our 9 1/2 yr old greyhound in to this clinic at 3am. He was paralyzed on his left side. Two vet techs quickly responded to our vehicle and removed "Jake" from the car and took him to the treatment area. As soon as we had finished the paperwork, Dr. McCann came to us and told us what we were facing. Jake had probably developed a blood clot on or near his spine. When we asked if we could see him, Dr. McCann led us into the treatment area (a place most folks dont get to go) and let us see Jake. Dr. McCann told us they needed to take some x-rays to confirm what he tought and asked us to wait in a room. Dr. McCann came in and told us the bad news. Yes, Jake had developed the blood clot. Dr. McCann told us of all the treatment options, he further stated that even if the treatment was done, not only was it very expensive, he could not guarantee it and even if it was successful, Jake's quality of life would suffer. We asked Dr. McCann if they could bring Jake into the room with us and let us sit with him a while. Within minutes they were there with him. Dr. McCann left us alone so that we could make a decision, and we made the most difficult decision any pet owner will ever have to make. We called Dr. McCann back in and discussed our decision with him. He was fully sympathetic and consoling and he supported our decision. At our request he again left us alone and waited for us to let him know when we were ready. When we called him back in, and when we sent Jake across that rainbow bridge, Dr. McCann had tears in his eyes as my wife and I cried. We asked Dr. McCann if we could have some sissors to cut some of Jakes fur off as a keepsake. Instead he brought in some electric shears and did it for us. We arranged for the private cremation. As we were checking out and I was paying the bill, I forget what question I asked but the person at the front desk told me they could hold my check until my payday if I needed them too. With one last request of the staff, we asked if they could take some paw prints of Jake and they said they would be ready when we came to pick up the ashes. So to Shayster, again I am very sorry for your loss and I am sorry you were treated improperly but as you can see, this is not always the case. I know this does not ease your pain but I did want to let the other readers know.
