This was finally resolved satisfactorily. I wrote to the Florida commissioners office. They got ahold of t-mobile and advanced recovery. In the meantime, t-mobile had reviewed their file . They found my file!(imagine) I did have a copy of my correspondence for use if needed. They found that I moved, sent them the required documents and their representative had indeed marked it satisfied years ago.
They apologized over and over. I never heard from advanced recovery again. No Apology or anything. I am letting it rest as I am not the suing type.
I absolutely knew I was right and could prove it in a court of law. Their technique at advanced recovery was terrible. My son had worked at a customer service center, and they could actually deviate from the script if the situation warranted it.
Glad it's over, but I was going to fight to court if I had to.

I had the same problem..looking further into it they're really not a scam.. I was MAD when I found out about my AT&T acct... I laughed about your "flunky" reading from the cue card comment..but really and truly they're only allowed to say certain things. I don't think I could handle that job...you gotta think about it though.. Looking from an outside point of view- we get aggravated with them... and almost everyone they speak to is either a wrong number or cussing them out saying they're not paying an acctount. My situation was, I disconnected my services due to me moving. AT&T bills 30 days behind so when I paid my final bill, they failed to tell me I had another accuring bill and they couldn't bill me because I moved and didn't give them my new address. So it was turned over to collections and I looked into it and actually it was Enhanced Recovery Company that had mine...it was on my credit report.. but I lit into that little girl on the phone, asking her what rebuttal she had for each comment I had to make...asking her what her card said to do in a situation like this...I had that poor thing in tears! lol Of course at the end of the conversation I truly felt bad about it, especially after I contacted AT&T and found out that all the woman told me was true (about the 30 day late billing cycle), I called back to apologize and she told me, "ma'am, I do apologize but if you truly didn't feel comfortable paying over the phone you could have mailed in your payment.. if we are a scam we wouldn't send out letters or itimized bills..." which is indeed true.. they CAN send you an itimized bill and you can also check the business bureau website and they ARE a collections agency. So like you, I too had my doubts and wasn't ABOUT to send MY money to them and definitely wasn't going to give them my information over the phone! lol In your case.. I would be mad at T-mobile because they never retreived your debt from their collections agency. And, think about it, if they truly was a scam, how would they have your information about your private acct? If they was a scam and had your private information you'd have a valid law suit on t-mobile because they would have had to sale your information.. so anyways.. that's my story and my rebuttal. Hope I didn't offend you but I figured my information would help settle a conflict with you and your problem. Have a blessed day.
