On their website, www.etrade.com, they spell it out. It's extremely difficult to find; I've only seen it when I e-mail them via their website at the bottom of the page once you've logged in. They don't charge so long as you make one buy or sell per quarter, or if you have over 50000 and a couple other stipulations. In April, 2005, Etrade raised the quarterly maintenance fee from 15 ---> 40. Yikes! So I e-mailed them a few times and told them I thought that was pretty steep. I was really persistent after they e-mailed back stating that services are greatly improved. Well, they're not. I wrote a check once and it bounced. I asked the Etrade rep why they bounced the check. The response was "the check was old and our data servers have been updated". Yeah, right, my response exactly. Well, a funny thing happened. Over the years, I've had 67 credited back to my account. The internet went down and I had to do transactions over the toll-free line and Etrade charged me. When the check bounced, Etrade rep said he would have to speak to his supervisor. He said he could credit half. Well, you know, that was 1.5 years ago, but, after bringing it up and the fact that I felt 40 was too much for no improved service, they credited the 40 back. Then the other half of the bounced check charge! What a surprise. So, if you are nice to them and peresistent, you will begin to receive "smart alerts do not reply" e-mails stating that your account is being looked at. Hope you receive credit or partial credit and are as fortunate as I was. Best to you and to all who submit to ripoff report.
