I recently had a bad experience with these people. I have an EZ pass tag and went there to register for the Staten Island resident discount. First they asked for my vehicle registration. I did not have a current one as my wife had it. Then I was told to go to the Motor Vehicle Dept to get a copy. Then I was told my wife had to be present because the car is in both of our names. I explained that I just wanted the EZ Pass in my name. In my research, I found out that:
A) You do not have to own a vehicle to qualify for the Verazanno Bridge Discount.
B) You do not even have to have a driver's license to qualify for the Verazanno Bridge Discount.
Therefore they do not have any right to ask for this information. The only information that they have a right to ask for is to establish indentification and a utility bill or other piece of material that proves you are a Staten Island resident.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A VEHICLE IN YOUR NAME AND LIVE ON STATEN ISLAND, YOU ARE ENTITLED TO THIS DISCOUNT BY LAW. DO NOT LET THEM TURN YOU AWAY. THREATEN TO GO TO YOUR CONGRESSMAN IF THEY DO NOT COMPLY AND FOLLOW THROUGH!!!
