They tried to rip me off also. You can file a complaint with the U.S. Attorneys Office & the L.A. County D.A. Have you tried talking to your mortgage company. You can do your own loan modification. You do not need to hire a loathey also loose. n modification cimoany. They are only going to do the same thing that you yourself have the ability to do. Do you have an FHA backed mortgage. If you do you might qualify for reliefe under the congresstional pan that was passed into law to help home owners get reliefe. You might be able to get forbarence for a period of time also. You need to speak with your lender. It will cost them more to close up your house thento let you stay in it. If the bank has to take a short sale on the house (less then the value when bought) they also loose. Stay cool & talk to your lender. Expalain to them what has happened. They have the power to renegotiate your mortgage at a lower rate and possibly reduce your principal balance. You need to compose a hardship letter that you can mail or fax to them. Most importantly you must have an on going dialouge with them to support your request. When all else fails hire an attorney that is good with real estste. There is one law firm that has a pretty track record. They are out of CA. Their name is Rodis Law. You can find them on the internet. I hope this was helpful to you.
