For all of those thinking this only affected owners during the last 10 years, you're absolutely wrong. I purchased at Celebration World Resort when they first opened. There were only two buildings up at the time. I originally purchased a 1 bedroom for $10,000, then they convinced me to upgrade to a 3 bedroom lockout for an additional $10,000. For years I used the three bedrooms, but the annual maintenance was out of control at $1200 a year.
About 7 years ago I went to the sales department almost willing to walk away from the timeshare because of the high maintenance. They told me the old deeds were set up with the high maintenance and to re-deed the property and convert them for RCI Points. The annual maintenance would only be a couple of hundred dollars per year and they will give 120,000 points every two years. We decided to take the new deal.
It worked great until now. Festiva dropped my points to 31,000 per year. Try going to Festiva on RCI and book 3 bedrooms for a week. They want around 130,000 points. I can't even book a 1 bedroom with a partial kitchen at Festiva with those points. They want 38,000 points. Now how does that make any sense.
My $20,000 investement from the 1990's is now worth nothing.
