First Data Global Leasing First Data Merchant Processing deceptive trade practices Atlanta, Georgia
First Data was a bad choice for merchant processing. It is my opinion to not get involved with this company under any circumstances.
I was set up with this account through Wells Fargo Merchant Services and locked into a contract for 48 months with no way to cancel their services. No matter how poor the terminal worked, and the problems with processing payments, the customer service did little to nothing to assist with it.
When I tried to cancel this account with them, they simply stated that the contract would be enforced to completion no matter what the problems were.
I was paying $57.50 to Wells Fargo Merchant Services plus the individual processing fees on cards (% and transaction) and then $45.00 to First Data for their outdated equipment that they would not upgrade with out renewal of 4 year contract.
After the 4 year contract was completed I notified First Data that I would like to close my account and return their equipment. They stated that the account could not be closed until the equipment was returned and processed. I waited to receive their return tag, which conveniently came after the next billing cycle. I wrote a letter of termination, made copies of all return tags and shipped the equipment back to them registered mail so that I can have proof of return. I called them to ensure that if the equipment was returned I would not continue to be billed They stated that if the equipment was returned within 48 of the next billing date that I would not be charged for the next month. The equipment was received by them 10 days prior to the next billing cycle.
I received no confirmation from First Data that they acknowledged the return of the equipment nor an acknowledgement that the cancelation letter was received. Low and behold I was billed again on the next billing cycle.
I contacted First Data to ask why I was billed and they denied receiving the equipment. After providing evidence of the tracking number and proof of delivery they stated that they would have to investigate the package at their warehouse and that could take several days. Only after the package was verified would they process a refund for the charges and that would take an additional 15-20 business days to return the funds to my account.
They claim that they do not have it as of today. How much do you want to bet that they charge my account again next month.
Needless to say I contacted Wells Fargo, who is the one who paired me with these crooks, and placed the charges into dispute.
Because First Data has an ACH agreement from the processing contract, they basically have free will to take money whenever they want without notifying me and without obstruction. My only option to stop their ability to take money is to close the account and then I have to order new checks and change all other customer accounts to a new account number.
