I received a 2008 Cadillac STS for Christmas this year. Wow! I was amazed and impressed. The car has a lot of luxuries, including heated seats and heated steering wheel. Really nice touches. It has a built in navigation system. However, this next part, is why I am telling you not to buy a GM product. The car only came with one key. That's right, only one. When I asked for the another key, I was told that I could buy it for $172.57. Also, I asked for the navigation DVD. Come to find out that is another $199.00. What kind of company sells you a car with only 1 key? What kind of company says that if you want the navigation system in your car to work you have to buy a DVD for $199.00? This is nuts. I have tried to deal with Cadillac Assistance to no avail. Their reply is go to the dealer and spend another $400.00 to make your car complete.

Well, here is my response! I will not purchase another GM product. Enough of that! If they treat all of there customers the way they have treated me, it is no wonder they are in serious trouble. I have not bought a Honda since 1988, but I may go back to them. Of course there are a lot of other car companies out there. I am pretty sure they would love to sell me a car, and would include 2 keys with it along with the DVD if needed

With reference to your concern, GM ships all vehicles to the dealership with 2 keys and 2 remotes when car comes with keyless entry. Also, if the vehicle has a navigation radio, the DVD is in the packet with the floor mats, keys, etc. If these items are missing when the vehicle is delivered, the dealership can get them replaced under warranty by submitting a claim to GM. If the pieces are in the vehicle at time of delivery to the dealer, but are lost or misplaced after the vehicle is accepted from GM, the Dealership is responsible for providing the extra key and DVD, not GM. It is not GM's fault if the key, remote, and DVD are misplaced by the dealership. Believe me, this is common. I work for dealership and this happens occassionally at dealerships. I suggest you contact the General Sales Manager first where you bought the car, if no results, contact the owner of the dealership for review.

You said you 'received the car for Christmas'. You will Never buy GM products again?? I don't know about that, GM products covers a lot of ground. The key should be re-producable at a lock smith, even if it has codes or chips for disabling the car. If someone gave me a cadillac for Christmas, the last thing I would worry about is the key or navigation system. Sounds a bit spoiled.

Nav DVD and Key

Is the car new or used? If it is used, most dealers buy the cars as is and sometimes they only come with one key and sometimes not even the Nav DVD because the person that leased the car new, kept it. If the car in new, then that is not right. I would definately try and take it up with the regional manager or someone higher up.
