My car is paid off, I have the title in my hands - my last payment was only supposed to be $30 on April 30th, but they charged me $116. Then, when nothing was owed, they charged me again on 5/14. When I contacted GMAC, their phone support insisted they had no idea and that MY BANK was forwarding this money to them which not true, this was not set up through bill pay. GMAC was provided my checking account number and routing number at the start of the loan and had been automatically withdrawing the money.
They refused any responsibility and insisted that I call my bank to have them stop sending my money to GMAC (ha?!). I spoke to my bank, CHASE, and CHASE allowed me to file a dispute and suggested closing and opening a new account. This is a HUGE hassle. I hope I get my money back. If not, I'm going to need legal representation. It's going to take hours sitting at a bank and on the phone with other HONEST comapnies I have autobill set up with (t-mobile for example) getting everything switched over.
The employees at GMAC customer support lied to me about GMAC's address, too. They looked up Chevrolet's corporate HQ when I asked them for the address and gave that to me instead of their own. Extremely shady. I can't recommend strongly enough that you stay far, far away from these people.
Reviewing my charge history, I'm also beginning to wonder if they were overbilling me for my car. . . . .
Please save yourself from being ripped, stay away from anything related to GMAC! The Midway Chevrolet I purchased the car from lied to me initially, too, about "holding" my check until the hold on the money I deposited cleared - wound up with a returned check fee.
