All the negative things that everyone has said about Goodwill are absolutely true. I was fired from Goodwill on September 22, 2009 and they didn't really give me a reason. I worked at an attended donation center in Eugene, Oregon and they accused me of not keeping the site clean.

Now, I suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder, so I have to keep EVERYTHING clean, at home and at work. They told me that they had several complaints from donors that said I was rude to them. I am incapable of being rude to anyone. But I really don't think those were the real reasons why they fired me. I wrote two letters to the management telling them my concerns. After I submitted the second letter I was fired. I did not use any foul language in these letters or demean anybody in any way.

Here are some incidences that had happened to me while I worked for Goodwill:

-Consistently worked 10 hours straight several days in a row without any breaks. I told my supervisor this and she told me it was my problem, and that I was not allowed to close the site down for lunches or breaks.

-The first site I worked at I was harassed by two of my co-workers. One of them was harassing me racially. (I'm Caucasian) I wrote my first letter and told my supervisor about this and that this causes "hostile working conditions" that I couldn't put up with. I was then moved to a site where I didn't have to work with anyone else.

-I was repeatedly verbally abused by donors. Even if I was very nice to them. One day I got 78 donations. And out of those 78 people who donated, 25 of them were verbally abusive to me. And I did nothing to provoke them. When I told my supervisor of this she told me there was nothing they could do about it.

-I discovered three syringes out by the site's back gate. I informed my supervisor of this and she told me it was my responsibility to dispose of them.

-I was repeatedly exposed to urine, feces, and bloodstained furniture and items donated to the site. Management refused to provide me with proper protective equipment.

-I was erroneously written up for something I supposedly did on a day that I was not working. I wasn't even in town when this write up took place. My supervisor said I was seen smoking right outside the front door of the site. I do not smoke and never have.  When I was confronted by my supervisor on this I was not given an opportunity to defend myself.

-I was treated like a child by supervisor. And I am older than her by several years.

Goodwill does not help people. Goodwill helps Goodwill. They function on greed. They mistreat their employees. But what they don't understand is that without their employees, there is no Goodwill. I hope to God someone has the courage to take this company down. I wish it could be me but I fear it would be a losing battle, as Goodwill seems to think of itself as a country unto itself.
