I got a phone call for a free energy audit. So I said, why not, I might learn something? The guy came over, and he was very personable. Then I take him through the house and he talks to me about my need for a new roof, some new or repaired skylights, some special insulation between the roof and the room on the third floor, and some gizmo that is supposed to save electricity where my circuit box is in the basement.
So then he tells me how he can save me BIG money if I agreed to be a "model home" that he could use as advertisement for other customers. This is a steep discount he says--a grand bargain at $17k for primarily a townhouse roof that would cost $3-5k pretty much anywhere else, as I later found out. The two skylights? They cost $500 each and take 15 minutes to remove and install. So that must be some d**n special insulation on the third floor.
The amount of money I would save on energy would be minimal compared to the 500% overinflated prices they charged.
And here's the kicker--he insisted I take his offer that night before he would leave my house. I said many times that I needed to research prices, and I would get back to him. If the deal was off the table, then I would just have to miss out.
He would not hear a word I said! I had to forcefully insist that I was not interested in his product. At this point, he was very rude.
Two weeks later I got a free credit report in the mail.
When they called me to follow up on my business, I told them to go to hell and I hoped we never crossed paths again. Now they are calling me up again. When I said why I would never do business with them, they got the guy who came to my house to phone me and try to intimidate me.
This is a BAD company!
