I rented an apartment at the Yards for 6mo. The charming sound of trains aside, there were constant problems. Things didn't get fixed as promised. Paying rent online was a problem because it rejected two attempted payments, which they cited as grounds for eviction. What had actually happened is that they had not, on their end, filed the necessary paperwork to have my low-incoome housing subsidized, and they had someone willing to pay full price they wanted to get in instead. They refused my rent and gave me notice of evition 5mo into a 6mo lease. I went to the pre-eviction hearing and voluntarily left prior to the aviiction process, but truns out they went ahead with the eviction proceedings anyway and I had an evitcion on my record to two years. The management there would post flyers up on doors for fire alarm tests AFTER people had already left the building (literally) and could never be bothgered to do their job, even if it means people end up without a home. They allegedly changed management just after this, and they claim to have done this repeatedly, but its oddly the same manager and staff on site as always. I had my mail tampered with while there by the staff, and the whole thing makes it seem like its one of THOSE places in Portland - where the fact that this little city was only recently a small mountain town shines through in the backroom way things are run. Sign up with these people only if you are a native Oregonoian long since jaded by the local flavor and way of doing things, or if you're one of those who pass through town and haven't already lost enough money to these inbred scam artists. The courtyard is nice, the apartments are corporate and generic but nice enoough- but the staff is AWFUL, the train noise even WORSE than you might expect, and the "new" building has too many connections to "old" Portland.
