Hanover Insurance Group Demand letter for external/interior inspection 5 yrs. after home purchase. Worcester, Massachusetts
We refinanced our 2007 built home in January of 2012. Because my insurance (Hanover) premiums were higher than we liked for insuring both our home and vehicles, we decided to drop coverage for our vehicles resulting in a $300. increase in premiums.
Almost 9 months later, we received a letter asking for the remaining $300.00 within 30 days, or our policy would be cancelled.
Neither the mortgage company or myself were notified of the partial payment.
We expressed our unhappiness with the lack of communication, but settled the matter quickly. End of story... We thought.
Within days, we received another letter from Hanover letting us know that we were going to be contacted by an Information Providers Inc. representative to schedule a routine exterior and interior home inspection. If we don't comply with the inspection, our policy may be subject to nonrenewal.
Not ever having a required home inspection years after moving into a home, we decided to research the matter further and found a similar story on Ripoff Report.
It seems suspect that the inspection came after an issue arose with Hanover. Are we going to be denied existing coverage for a minor infraction? Will our premiums rise depending on what may or may not be found?
We don't want to be forced to make a mad dash to find coverage if/when we are dropped.
