I hope there can be a class action lawsuit against this practice because many magazines are doing this. They are sending mail or an e-mail that states, "Thank you for choosing to be part of our Continuous Service Program. As we recently notified you, your renewal to House Beuatiful has been processed.
Payment is now due. Please enclose your check with the invoice below and return it in the pre-addressed envelope.
When I wrote a check for this subscription I hand wrote across the subscription form that I did not want automatic renewal. I wrote it in big enough letter so they would not miss my request.
On May 18, 2015, I received an invoice for $12.97 with the words above, illegally claiming that I had requested the "Continuous Service Program". This is a total lie! I purposely did not use my credit card so they would not illegally charge my credit card.
On May 18, 2015, I sent them an e-mail stating that
"I never gave you the authority to automatically renew my subscription! I decide if I want to renew - Not You! What you are doing is Illegal! I specifically wrote a check for my subscription so you would not charge my credit card for renewal. You are doing something very illegal by renewing peoples subscriptions and charging them without their authority and approval! If you wish to find out if or not I want to renew send me a letter. I will not pay for any automatic renewals ever"
More trouble from Hearst Company - House Beautiful Magazine.
On May 30, 2015, I received another, harassing letter demanding, yes demanding payment of $12.97. This has caused me and millions of other people with subscriptions a lot of stress with these threatening letters! The Hearst Magazine Company has many, many magazines and I am absolutely positive that each magazine subscription is sent these letters - millions of them by the Hearst Company!
This time I wrote:
"House Beautiful - you are doing something very illegal. You state in a second letter to me dated May 30, 2015 - 'Thank you for choosing to be part of our continuous service program' I never, never agreed to be a part of your "continuous service program!!!! I want you to fax me proof (gave phone #) that I signed up for you 'continuous service program' I'm about to make a class action lawsuit on your billing your customers and stating that your customers signed up for 'continuous service program' I expect to hear from you with proof that I signed up for 'continuous service program' I wrote specifically on my subscrition form when I signed up with House Beautiful magazine that I did not want automatic renewal. I will not pay any bill for $12.97!!!
How can you live with yourselves - each one of you - doing these tactics. I'm definately not that kind of person - and I hope you quit your job instead of working for a company that does this.
