Hendersen Webb Beware of Extortion, Shady Practices and Poor Maintenance Cockeysville, Maryland
I rented an efficiency apartment at Windy Cliff Place 3/09 - 10/10. I have a credit of 750 and an excellent job that pays well. I rented this apartment as a second residence due to relocation of work from Pennsylvania to Maryland. I mention my credit score because I was horrified as to how I was treated during my tenure in the apartment.
After making rent payments on time for over a year, they sent me an eviction notice claiming lack of payment. I had sent a check that should have been received on time so this was a shock to me. I called the rental office and they said they never received the check, so I put a stop payment on it. I re-issued a check and hand-delivered it to the rental office so I could get a receipt, but I was still required to go to court.
Three days before my court date, I received a letter from Hendersen Webb stating that they had a check with a stop payment, but they had received my re-issued check. I still was required to go to court (all of this within 20 days of the rental due date) - I lost 1/2 day of work to show up to court, only to be met by an attorney of Hendersen-Webb who acknowledged that I had paid the rent plus court costs and I could leave the court.
I can't help but think that they saw a way to get fees out of me, even though they had my payment all the while.
I subsequently sent a letter 09/10 stating that I was breaking my contract and sent it along with a check for 10/10 rent. I then sent my keys to them along with two months of rent per the requirement of the contract mid 10/10 with a return-recepit (I had tried to access Ms. Dulaney to pay her in person and to get a receipt to ensure they did not try to scam me out of more money - I was told she would not see me). My experience with Ms Dulaney is that she does not grant an in-person visit, nor does she let you communicate to her via phone or email. So, you can never try to resolve issues when you enter a complaint.
In February 2011, I received an eviction notice along with a warrant for restitution for rent they claimed I owed for February. This is extortion, because I surrendered my keys, sent a notice and paid my required 2 months of rental money in October of 2010. They claim I am still a tenant with failure to pay (note they did not send a notice for January for rent due).
Now I have to take time from work, again, to go to court to get this straigtened out. I feel that if I do not, they will keep sending eviction notices so they can extort me for rent and fees that I do not owe. I have not been in the Windy Cliff apartment since 10/15/10!
Please do not rent from Hendersen Webb and save yourself from the mice, lost electricity, water damage to walls and extortion.
