In May 2000 I paid an extra $1500 for a 100,000 mile 7 year extended warranty on a used 1999 Dodge Dakota. My only written condition at the time of sale was that the dealership furnish me a written copy of the warranty ASAP. They agreed to do so as soon as their paperwork was completed.

I never received the warranty or a copy. In 2001 I complained to the Herb Chambers head office in Somerville and Chamber's personal secretary assured me by phone that I did not need a copy of the warranty, and that my signed application (by both me and Herb Chambers rep) for the warranty at the time of purchase was sufficient to prove I had the extended warranty. I had moved but had my new dealer check with Chrysler and he assured me I had an extended warranty.

5 years after my purchase in June of 2005 my Dakota's transmission failed completely at 58,000 miles. I took it to my local dealer and tried to get it fixed under the warranty. He told me there was no warranty on file for my vehicle. I called Chrysler who informed me that I did have an extended warranty, but it expired just 3 weeks ago. I told them I had a 7 year, 100,000 warranty. They said, "No you do not. You only got a 6 year 65,000 mile warranty and the 6 years were up last month." I asked why wasn't I given the 7 year warranty I paid for. Chrysler told me that was between me and the dealer. Of course Herb Chambers told me it was Chrysler's fault and to take it up with them. Herb Chambers and his secretary refused to discuss the matter with me.

I spent $2600 repairing the transmission and went to an honest dealership and traded the Dakota in on a Chevrolet -- end of problem. Herb Chambers, despite his polished BS on TV is nothing more than a meretricious hypocrite -- and a thief. I will never buy a Chrysler product nor anything associated with Herb Chambers.

Sometime later I bought a Porsche Convertible from a local dealership. When I discovered that Herb Chambers had bought the dealership I immediately cancelled the purchase.

I do not know how much extra money Chambers made by putting me in for a 6 year warranty instead of a 7 year, but mutliply that times the many thousands of cars he sells each year and it quickly becomes evident how he makes so much profit.
