On March 24, 2003, I got online to make some reservations for my elderly parents, my sister and her daughter. My parents wanted to go to Las Vegas and I got them a good deal throug hotwire. They e-mailed me a confirmation with the itineary of the scheduled flights. All the information was given to them including credit card, phone numbers and fax numbers. Their flight was confirmed to leave on Wednesday June 4, 2003 at 3:55 PM from San Antonio, Texas going on Delta Flight 1705 with connecting flight to Salt Lake City arriving at 5:47 PM and then nonstop to Las Vegas, Nevada Departing at 6:45 PM Salt Lake City Intl. Airport to arrive at 7:10 PM Las Vegas McCarran Intl. Airport.

My sister called to confirm their sitting arrangments on May 8, 2003 and was faxed her confirmation with the original flight time.

On June 4, 2003, they get to San Antonio Airport and they find out that their flight was missed. They told her that their flight was changed to leave at 8:35 AM. My elderly parents were very depressed and shocked to hear that they had missed their flight. No nodification was given to them. My sister calls me and tells me the cituation therefore, I called hotwire and I spoke to Judy B. (she was not allowed to give last name) and very rudely told me that notice of rescheduling was e-mailed to me only once on April 27, 2003. I never got this e-mail. That week I had an emergency trip and was not at work. Hotwire never tried to fax or call no one else.

The complaint is, that m

y senior citizen parents were charged $764.00 and their flight was changed to an earlier flight without any notification. They had to book another flight that day and pay more.

I have copies of all the confirmations, flight, itinary and even the e-mail that I got from by trash bin which was dated 4/27/03.

I agree with Michael. There are so few travelers who follow the instructions provided on their confirmations or tickets, the most important of which is to reconfirm all of your details, typically 24 hours prior (this is clearly written on most tickets, or e-mail confirmations as well). Airlines change schedules on a regular basis. It is not physically possible to contact each individual impacts personally. The fact that they even attempted to contact you via e-mail surprises me. Considering you made your reservations over two months in advance, why did you not continue to check them for changes? Even doing so a week before the flight would have given you plenty of time to notice the change and adjust accordingly as the flight was changed more than a month before the travel date.

A refund was and may still be possible.

Hotwire has a policy. When a flight's itinerary has changed more than 4 hours a refund is possible, or even a possible reschedule. You do, however, actually have to call hotwire to do it. It may or may not still be eligible for a refund, depending on how long ago you booked it.

Unfortunatly flight schedule changes do happen, which is why you really need to call the airline and reconfirm everything. They do advise you of this, and I know that travel agents will tell you this, but very few people do. Especially if you have booked about a month or more in advance. You mentioned that you were at work, and didn't get the email, and they didn't try to call. You have to remember that they are dealing with so many reservations that it is not possible to continually have to try to contact someone, so this responisbility falls then on you to call the airline.

How many times are you going to tell us your parents are old. If they were 30 would this somehow made it acceptable?
