When I call someone and the person on the other end says "Wrong number" I always apologize and say thank you and promptly hang up. Not these people. This morning at 10:56 am, moments before going to work, my phone rings so I answer it. They asked for a Deana or something and I said, sorry wrong number. Call over right? No. This guy then rushes to say "this call may be monitored" or some such nonsense and I stopped as I was already about to hang up, since this call was clearly not for me. I told him again, he has the wrong number, and he then asked how long I had my number. Truth was, I had it for about a month, but that was none of this complete stranger's business. So I repeat, he had the wrong number, thinking, "Get the hint and go away". He didn't. I demanded his name, which, surprisingly he told me "Mark", but said nothing else. "And you are Mark with who exactly?" He then gave the company name. I demanded to speak with a supervisor, to which he replied, "I can't get him on the phone right now". This guy was not being too rude or overtly demanding like most, but the fact is, you don't have the privilege to ask me any questions. Whoever it is you are trying to call changed her number, moved, I have no idea. It isn't hard to do 5 seconds of research online and find the person they are looking for. I reputedly demanded to speak to his supervisor, making sure to use his name over and over, and made sure that this call was being recorded to make him aware that he was making a big mistake.
It took him about 3 minutes of this before he apologized, and continued to ignore me demanding to speak to a supervisor, and hung up. I did not even know this was a collection agency until after the call and I did a search on the company name. I don't care what their policy is for people claiming to have the wrong number. It is not my responsibility to do their research to find who they are looking for, nor is it their business to know who I am or anything about me. I am not obligated to tell you my name or how long I have had my phone number or any thing more than "Sorry, Wrong number". I will be posting again if the calls continue; as I have not gotten a guarantee that they will remove my number.
