Many restaurants use the same fryer and oil for all their fried products. If you have an extreme allergy like this appears to be, always carry an EpiPen and/or never eat food which could be cross contaminated.

I have read this report and it seems that you neglected to tell the server you were allergic to fish....I mean if I were allergic to fish and someone else at the table ordered it, well I would let them know not to cook the fish around anything that I was ordering. Food can be prepared on a grill you know and things can be cooked around one another. Also if one of my children were allergic to something I wouldn't even bother to order it when dining out with them~how inconsiderate. You should always let your server know your dietary needs so they can be clued in as to have your food cooked separatly.

As the Kosher Racket Representive for IHOP, I know for a fact this woman is lying. Everything we cook is KOSHER and it is against Kosher law to cook eggs in fish oil. So by making false witness against IHOP, you are rearing your Anti-Semitic NAPPY HEAD against Jews. You not only hate America, you hate Jews. Are you still upset with that 'slavery' thing? You should be happy that your forefathers were brought here 300 years ago. Otherwise instead of living off welfare, you would have already been eaten by a lion or something. You should be thankful IHOP even let your black a*s in the place to begin with.

The EpiPen is a prescription medication and not sold over the counter. And actually, even if she had one, the recommendation is still that the patient go to the ER. The EpiPen is a wonderful thing, but unfortunately, many who need it don't have it, and many who have it are not properly trained in it's use. I would suggest that anyone with severe allergies, at the very least, CARRY BENADRYL.

I have an allergy to shell fish. If I have a reaction it is life threatening. I don't have time for numbers or paying the bill. If I did not carry an epipen, I wouldn't make it to the hospital. I think her allergy is more psychological than real. By the way, if it smelled like fish, knowing your condition, why would you even eat it?

My daughter has extensive allergies. We first disocvered it when she took some penicillin as a toddler. An allergic reaction like anaphylactic shock is FAST. I think we had no more than 20 minutes from the moment her face turned red to the time we were in the ER. We sure didn't have time to pay a bill, call corporate, or anything like that. If your throat was closing up you wouldn't have been able to call or talk to anyone. I have to go with Robert and Stacy on this one and raise the b******** flag.

If suffer a food allergy that inhibits your breathing the last thing you should be worried about is the bill and corporate number Sorry no sympathy here - you CHOSE to pay the bill and get the corporate number BEFORE seeking Medical Attention - When I have breathing problems due to allergies I call 911 period

Sherri if they are given that prescription that would explain what it was that she needed to be filled. So I'll revise it to 7% fact, 93% Drama. However, you may see it as "hard". But the actions do not match the severity of the events she was trying to convince us of. If you really think it makes sense for a person who is saying their throat is closing up and that they could have died. To not only wait to pay, get the corporate number, but actually file a report on the way to the hospital then that is your option. I am actually surprised she didn't say that they intentionally cooked them together, if that is in fact what happened. After all she had already asked for another drink because of something floating in it, then return her omlet because her plate was dirty. Perhaps she will add this in later.

Rabbi Goldstein wrote the truth in the report and some people here are trying to stifle the free expression of TRUTH the good Rabbi is putting forth. I happen to know Rabbi Pedro personally and if you knew him the way I do, you would say you are sorry for the vicious, evil assault on Rabbi Pedro's efforts to bring truth and shine a light on the bad things Shanika is trying to do against IHOP and society as a whole. We owe Rabbi Pedro a debt of thanks for standing up for all this is good in America. If you are against Pedro Goldstein, you are against America - Why do you hate America?

I was always trying to slip fish to my ex-sister-in-law just to watch her lips swell up. I suspect the cook did throw the hash browns onto the grill along with the fish. Everything got cooked on the grill except for the chicken strips. It would be alot less expensive to keep either some benedryl caps or an epi-pen on hand. It would probably save an expensive ER visit or your life. Check with your Doc.

Why should IHOP be held responsible? Did you inform them before you sat down that you had a severe allergy to fish? If not, then they had no way of knowing and could not prepare your food the way you need it. The fact that you say the person with you got tilapia, means they cooked them on the same grill. This is normal for a restaurant to do. if its going to cause problems, you as the consumer need to tell the restaurant that. The reason they aren't paying your medical bills, is they are not liable for them.

Actually, many patients with food allergies are given a medication called Gastrocrom (sodium cromolyn), which inhibits histamines and other chemicals that trigger the allergic response, so that is probably the prescription that the OP is referring to. I personally think you guys are being a bit hard on the OP. I would not think to tell the server that I have a fish allergy when ordering an omelet. Why in the world would the cook prepare food using the same oil used in preparing fish? I wouldn't do it for taste alone.

If your so allergic to fish as to cause your throat to swell shut and cause anaphylaxis, it seems to me you should carry an epipen to administer epinephrin. Do let us know when you file your lawsuit. Don't forget to include the complete name of the court that is going to hear the case and the docket/case number.

With a name like Shankia it is obvious that you are a member of the africian american community. For a person on welfare you sure like to make all sorts of demands on the poor people who actually work and pay taxes to support your ability to get all sorts of free government money. Also as a colored person, we all know how you like fried fish so don't come off with that BS about having some sort of "allergic reaction to fish grease" - The "fish smell" was obviously coming from between your legs because you never bothered to d****e because you can't by feminine hygene products with food stamps. But let's get back tou your "complaint" - you come in to IHOP with no intention to tip the waiter, you complain about your drink, you complain about the 'dirty plate', you complain about the fish smell from your p***y and then you pretend to get sick and rush off to the hospital looking to win the lottery from IHOP Corporate. All businesses know your racket - SCAM - If it isn't a "workers comp" claim, then it is whiplash from riding the bus, getting poisoned by a restaurant, falling down in Wallmart to your "baby's daddy " getting shot by the police fleeing from that armed robbery. Give it a rest woman. We are akll wise to your negro scamming. Maybe if you spent more time looking for a job and less time making babies and looking for a lawsuit - America would be a better place.

It is possible (depending on how the tilapia was prepared) that the hash browns were grilled in the same area as the tilapia. The cook might have added oil to fry the hash browns on top of the oil residue from the fish, which is why your hash browns tasted fishy. But like Sue stated, you did not tell anyone in the restaurant about possible allergies. Plus, your allergic reaction must not have been as severe as you state given the fact you asked for a number and made a phone call en route to the emergency room. Aside from filing a complaint with the Ihop corporate office, there is pretty much nothing else you could do. You would have to prove in court that Ihop acted negligently by serving you fish products given you told them you had a fish allergy, which you did not.

First if you have an allergy to fish, did you inform them of this? Unless you have never eaten out before, I can also tell you that this was not the first time your food was cooked in close proximity to fish. The ONLY reason you actually knew it this time was because your mom ordered it. Second, and more importantly. Your throat was "closing up", yet instead of having them call 911 and get you immediate help. You had time to: 1 - Pay for the Meal 2 - Request the Corporate Number 3 - Actually call the corporate number and file a complaint on the way to the hospital. This alone makes it seem like you have 5% fact and 95% drama. Third, what is prescription you have not been able to fill. Because if this was an "allergic reaction", once the initial event was taken care of I am not sure what other medications would be needed.

True it was not handled correctly but did you as the customer inform them of an allergy? You as the customer have the first responsibility. All restaurants cannot presume to know allergies without being informed first.

Good grief, if I thought I could actually die from having any kind of food fried in oil that had been used for frying fish too, I'm certain I would never order fried food in a restaurant. I would only eat fried food I made under controlled conditions at home. I mean we're talking DEATH here, serious business. It sounds to me like you either take your life pretty casually or you are indeed trying to get something for nothing. Have you proved the oil they were using that day had been used to fry fish too? Have you proven that's what caused your reaction? I think these are at least 2 things you would have to prove before you could even start with any kind of claim. Sounds pretty shaky to me.
