I also contacted Invention Technologies, Inc. after seeing their commercial/advertisment on television. I later received an information packet regarding what the company will do for me. So I later faxed the sketch/drawing, and all the practical uses with all the information they required to get started. Soon there after, their representative (Harry King) did'nt skip a beat and called me to discuss my invention.
Mr. King informed me that my invention was by far the best invention yet with low cost to manufacturer. He was also excited to tell me that he just came out of a board meeting about my invention originally called (TWYLIGHT). He repeatedly and consistently stated that they will send out for me and my wife to fly out to thier headquaters located in Coral Gables, FL (Never Happened). Mr. King also stated my idea was chosen out of 100'S of other ideas, but I should send him $$ In thousands right away so his waiting team could get started to file a patent. So without hesitation we did; trusting this big invention, globally known company. After all, they repeatedly advertised everywhere, TV, radio, magazines, mail etc....
Mr. King sounded like a slick-talking salesperson, Basically like a used car salesman; he was good! Boy was I was convinced! I believed and trusted all he said; all his bogus crap. He was slick and stuck to his ground and kept asking for more money and wanted it right away. I told him to call me in a couple days considering I already sent him lots of cash. He got my address so he could send the contract for some signatures.
In a few days, Mr. King called. I was available to discuss my idea. Mr. King told me he just came out of a half-hour meeting about my idea and his team was very excited to get started with my prototype and also rendering more drawings. He said he needed to get start right away so my product can get headlined at the spring trade shows. All I had to do was send him the extra money and so we did.
Mr. King later sent me letters, Along with trade show post cards from different shows from many different countries saying my product was doing great. That several companies were interested, that they several several manufacturer offers in the area in hundred of thousands
I tried to get a few words in between his pitch and it yes he also acted irritated to the point of him raising his voice at times in anger. I finaly asked him if I'd get my money back if the patent already existed. "Good question. I'm glad you asked! You will get back every dime you send us. We're not in the business of wasting our time with already patented ideas. We make most of our money off the 10% royalties. And don't worry, we'll be your representative in the licensing process."
Mr. King said we already did a preliminary patent search on your idea and we're 99.9% positive nothing like it exists. He then stated they needed approximately $10,000.00 immediately and asked if I wanted to send a check or pay via a credit card. I told him to call me in a couple of days so I could give him my credit card number (I didn't have the card handy).
Immediately that same freaking night my product was being sold all over the world under a different name what is known today as "The Tap Light" in dozens of informercials.
Someone else wrote about this as well, It is time to educate the public. Please reseach this company before signing anything. They will try to direct you to the BBB. Don't bother. The BBB doesn't have anything on them. Go to the FTC. There's plenty of info there.
Thank You
