When clearing up my brother's affairs after his death in October , 2009. I was approached by  Joe Lefler.   Evidently he had been selling meat to my mentally retarded brother.  Supposedly there was a freezer full of steaks in the garage.  WHen I inspected the freezer,  not only was it empty,  but it appeared that my brother had been sold a factory third.  The freezer had a huge dent in the top of it.    Upon reviewing my brothers' records and cancelled checks,  it appears that my brother had paid this a**hole nearly $5,000.   When I asked for a copy of the retail contract,  neither Mr. Lefler nor the Iowa Steak company have produced one.    It has been 5 months.

In summary,   in some areas and with some representatives,  Iowa Steak Company may be OK to deal with , but  not in Illinois,  and definitely not in Central Illinois.

It is interesting that no rebuttal was filed  against this report until 4 years after the incident originally occurred. Why would that be?

Unless only people that were either friends of Mr. Lefler or employees of Iowa Steak Company were directed to this complaint, I find it astonishing that anyone would even bother to comment. As for the questions raised in the last two posts, it is apparent that the poster(s) have no experience dealing with someone that is not mentally competent, nor are they aware that it takes a great deal of legal procedure to have someone declared unable to manage their own affairs. Even then , the incompetent person has the right to choose who is managing their affairs.  And as to the a't you think thallegation that the "family was trying to get more money", would'nt someone who was just informed of a person's death have the decency to refrain from badgering the only family member remaining until after the funeral?

I am a former employee of this company. Worked for them for years. We don't "rip" people off. We sell the product and they buy it. It's called doing business. Yeah the meat is nasty as s*** but people buy it so be it. As for the freezers that are sold, the customers see them before purchasing them. If they decide to buy it with dents, that's their problem. Contracts? Iowa Steak does not write out any contracts when they sell any meat to a customer. Not sure where you even heard that from. I am just wondering why you would allow your brother to be in control of his own finances if he was that unstable. I mean shouldn't one of you been in charge if he was as unstable as you claim????? Usually people have a payee. Why wouldn't he????

One more thing, I will say that Iowa Steak as a company does suck!!! I swithced companies because their meat tasted like leather but I did deal with many very friendly sales people.

This statment is such a joke LOL. Funny how when people buy something that they later regret and can not return, they get mad and want to slander people hahaha. No one was ripped off. I am also a customer of this company and a neighbor of this man we are speaking about. He was not ripped off. There were more than just him at the home the day the meat package was purchased. Get it together people!!! Sounds like some of the family may just be mad because that was money they did not get to pocket!? Just a thought.
