IRN Payment Systems withdrew $1,000 from our account when we canceled our account before our contract expired Westbury, Minnesota
The very small company I work for called IRN to cancel our account with them since we had a credit card for over 3 years and hardly every used the account. We were investigating using the merchant services through our online accounting software which meant we didn't need any equipment.
I called IRN to cancel and the gentleman on the phone offered to compare or beat the other offer and I declined because we would still need to rent the equipment which would ultimately end up costing us much more annually than using our online accounting software. He said that was fine I just needed to fax him our cancellation with the owner's signature. I did that that afternoon.
The next week they withdrew $1,000 from our account. I assumed this was some sort of mistake so I called and got the same gentleman on the phone. He said this was our cancellation fee. What?!?! Why wasn't there any mention of the cancellation fee when I called to cancel? He said he offered to do the comparison, but I declined. Which still doesn't answer my question. I asked to speak to his manager and he said he was the one that handled that department and wouldn't transfer me to anyone else.
I called back a couple days later and, of course, got the same gentleman on the phone. I asked him where he came up with the $1,000 cancellation fee when our monthly charges were $20 and we had 10 months left in our contract. They apparently base it off of the one transaction we did in the previous 12 months. That's right, we ran one credit card the prior 12 months and they made $174 dollars, so they figure they deserve $174/month for the 10 months left on our contract but they cap it at $1,000. This time he did transfer me to someone else (I don't really think he was a manager though) and he had the same story. UNBELIEVABLE!!!
The contract automatically renews unless you give them written notice 60 days prior to the current contract cancelling. This just doesn't seem like a legitmate business. I called the sales department and asked them what happens if I cancel before my contract is up and she informed me that there would be a cancellation fee that would apply. When I asked her how much, she said $1,000. It doesn't matter how much business you do they just arbitrarily charge you $1,000.
Please do not sign a contract with this company - you will come out on the losing end!! They are fraudulent!
