My husband is a truck driver. He is a veteran on the Army, and has over 16 years of experience in transportation. He's a nice, easy going guy, most would say he's unusually generous. He is a good father, and provider. He has owned a trucking company, and so he knows the in's and out's of the business. I'm telling you all this to give you an idea of what kind of guy my husband is. His MVR is completely clean! no incidents of any sort! He's the kind of guy you would want to work with. /his employees were upset when he decided to close his company because he paid and treated them very well. I know this becasue I worked for the company BEFORE we got together.
With that said, We were living just outside Atlanta, when we came across an ad sent to him via email about a relocation package being offered for employment from JB. My husband was a little hesitant about taking the job because he knows how these large companies can be. But we were looking to leave Atlanta and so we took a leap of faith. He took the job that would relocate him, myself, and my two daughters (ages 4 and 2) to York ,PA. Let me say first that he is originally from NY and I am from NJ. So we both are aware of the differences between the north and the south. Now,the relocation is broken up into payments via Comcheck. He recieved around $1300 on the last day of orientation in Atlanta, and another $1000 when we arrived in York. There are also "Bonuses" that you are "entitled to as a part of the agreement" Another conversatio he had with the personnel is the work he'd be doing. HE was ASSURED that he would report to the warehouse 5 days a week, two days off, pick up a load assigned to him, transport the load within a 250 mile radius of York, and assist with unload. He was also assured that there was PLENTY of opportunity to earn more by doing extra work.
This is what really happened. He recieved the two payments for relocation as I explained. The day starts with you getting to the york location, and chances are, they don't have a load for you, so you're just sitting in a room with quite a few other drivers in the same boat waiting for work. They tell you that they don't pay you for the firt two hours you may be sittng there. For the record the longest time my husband sat was almost 4 hours. Then you get your paperwork and keys, there are no assigned trucks. You transport the merchandise, and assist with unload. Then you get back and you msy be asked to do a second load. This isn't the problem, the problem is if you were asked to come in initially at noon or sometime in the afternoon, chances are after all the sitting ans waiting, and the time it takes to leave and come back twice, you may not get back home until 2 or 3 AM. Then start the process all over again. Still think that isn't a problem, some areas they send you to have a CURFEW for commercial vehicles...Meaning you could get a ticket for being in a particular place after a certain time. But Dispatch doesn't tell you this. And if you refuse, they write you up for not taking the load. We saw this happen to a female driver/single mother , and when she alerted the saftey division, dispatch stopped giving her work, so she couldn't financially take care of herself and her daughter.
Another thing you should know is that all the relocation money is listed in your first check. So it increases the gross amount on your check and the govt taxes the hell out of it. so if you earned 1100, from just the work you did, your first check would be around 3400, more. they put that they paid my husband $5000, so you can imagine what uncle sam took out of that. YOUR RELO SHOULD NEVER BE TAXED IN THAT FASHION.
As far as the area do your research, its an obstacle just to find a place with central air. Most homes are older than 70 years, and the apartments are s**t. With an exception of a few, the people on his job are generally unfriendly. Drivers come up here and leave, because taking this job will not only disappoint you, but you may go bankrupt in the process. JB hunt says whatver they must to recruit people only to throw them under the bus, with faulty equipent that they do not maintain. You could write trucks up for repairs as you should, but they do nothing, until something serious happens but then they will pin thie incident on you, and your DAC report.
DO NOT TAKE THE RELOCATION PACKAGE, JB HUNT LIES AND YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES WILL SUFFER AT THE END.

This is something thats been going on in that area for a while. I've come across a few drivers who have been burnt by taking that package deal. I would not suggest anyone taking the bonus money because there will always be some strings attached. To the gentlemen who is now with the teamsters and is making 84,000 a year after working 10 yrs with jb hunt I ask you this. What endorsements do you have? Are you pulling dry van? Doubles? Hazmat?,how many hours a day do you work?. I used to be a union rep for the teamsters and one thing I've realized thru the years is this industry is full of a lot of smoke and mirrors. If jb hunt had been a little more forth coming with the info in regards to the account then most people would probably have never taken the job. This obviously would'nt work well for jbhunt to do this because they need these bodies to fill the seats. Most people make their decisions based on the information presented to them, so this driver like many others has clearly been taken advantage of because of the companies lack of transparency. I worked with Jb hunt for 5 yrs in the beginning of my driving career and the company was a slightly better back then. To all the drivers considering the dcs c&s accounts be forewarned unless you have to take these jobs and there is nothing else out there Do Not take the money, pursue other driving options.
