I have had the same problems in the past and then a friend of mine told me about car smart. It is in Toledo over on Jackman by Laskey. I went there thinking oh great another one of these car places, but it was actually great. I have had my new van for 6 months now with no problems and the customer service was great. They in no way will rip you off. My credit is pretty bad with a bankruptcy and a repo but they got me financed with o down and payments I could afford. So if you want a good car that you can depend on with payments that are pretty descent, I suggest you check out car smart. Bill was the guy who I dealt with and he was a pretty awesome person. I also know that if your not happy with the car you have you can go get the new one and then let them take your old back and by the time it hits your credit you'll already have your new car. It may not be the most honest way but hey if the dealers were honest we wouldn't have to resort to this anyway right. So good luck and I hope you find a goog car.

To your comment Karl regarding why not go to your Credit Union or Bank to get financing in advance so places like JD Byrider can't take advantage of you, well my friend trust me if it were just that simple places like JD Byrider would be out of business. We as consumers don't walk into places like this because we want our hard earned money taken from us, we do it because we often times have no other choice. In my situation my husband and I did go to our bank to secure financing for a car we found being offered by a private Seller, this car was only $2,000 and we thought for sure we would be able to secure this amount however to our surprise we were turned down and if your own bank who knows your finances turns you down then chances are any other conventianal means of obtaining financing isn't going to be possible. As I stated in my original report, the only way we are going to insure that we don't get taken for everything we are worth when trying to rebuild our credit is to make sure we don't make the same mistakes we have made previous which put us in the situation to where we needed a place like this to finance a car and to do that we have to make sure we don't get in over our head again, and before you even step foot onto a lot, know how much you can afford to put down and what you can afford a month and stick to it, trust me no matter what the salesman tells you they have something you can afford, it may not be what the salesmen wants you to buy but they have it, so as long as you stick to your guns and walk away if needed you will get something you can afford and again it may possibly not be your dream car either but that is something you need to make yourself aware of before you even start the process of looking for a car, you need to make yourself aware that chances are you aren't going to end up in the car you have dreamed of since you were a child and that it will chances are be less then you would like to have but until you have a chance to rebuild that trust between you and the creditors this is something you have to do, after all you put yourself in this situation to begin with chances are, so now you have to grow up and deal with the consiquences of your past actions. Even after we almost had our JD Byrider CRAP paid off, I whole heartdly thought we would be able to walk onto any dealership lot and be able to secure normal financing on a used car and I was really shocked when it didn't seem to go that way, I mean yeah we ended up with a decent used car from a REAL dealership, however it wasn't the car I had hoped for, now I could have had that car but I woudl have had to come up with $1,000.00 more down and we just didn't have it, when we started the process of looking, we purposely went on a Saturday Afternoon, knowing that no deal could be completed that day and with the dealerships not being open on Sunday we would have time to think about what we were doing and make sure the deal was right for us. So we went to a few different dealerships and the first one we walked away from knowing we didn't want to buy any of the cars we were shown and so on to the second, now that is where I found the car I fell in love with and boy did I fall in love with it, lol it was hell waiting til Monday to find out if we were going to be able to get it with what we could afford down and when we got the call that we needed to come up with more down, my heart broke and I cried! Yes I really cried, but I didn't make the mistake so many of us make and decide we could afford that extra money because as I said before we started the process we sat down and decided what we could afford to put down and how much we could afford to pay monthly, and even though we could have come up with that extra money down, other bills would have suffered and that was what we were trying to get away from, putting other bills on the back burner so we could have something nicer that in the long run we couldn't afford. We had already done that twice before, I wasn't going to make that same mistake a third time even though I so wanted that car!!! So in closing, although most of us who end up on the lots like JD Byrider can't secure other means of financing otherwise they wouldnt' be there to begin with, still need to show some self control, know what you can afford to come out of pocket that day as your down payment, and know what you can afford monthly and if they can't get you into something for that then walk away and go to another place, there are dealerships like JD Byrider on every street corner it seems like so it isn't as if they are the only ones who will finance you at that high interest rate, trust me the one on the next corner will be happy to have your business, just be smart about it and although it won't happen overnight with time you will once again be able to get that good finance charge and a car you will be happy to own. Best of luck to all of you getting ready to go out and use your income tax as your down payment, just as I said be smart about it and don't get caught up in the same old net that got you here in the first place.

Belonging to a credit union won't guarantee you a loan, you won't necessarily get one - I couldn't. Another common thread here is time; it seems many people needed a car right away (I did!) and it takes a lot of time to get financed through a credit union or bank. Byrider uses this to their advantage - the more of a hurry customers are in to get the car, the easier it is to cheat them!

If you have a job more than likely you have access to a credit union. Have you considered arranging financing in advance and then looking for a car, preferably from a private owner who can show you maintenance records? Why people with poor credit allow themselves to get beaten down by "buy here, pay here" dealerships is beyond me. The down payment is usually what the car is worth and the payments are just fluff. The dealer loves to repo the car so that he can sell it again for the same down payment. Perhaps it might be smarter to just spend the money that you would spend on a newer car and restore your old one.
