Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I received an email titled "Final Notice" with an attachment. The attachment was on "U.S. Legal Services" letterhead.

The attachment stated that I am going to be "legally prosecuted in a court of law in a couple of days". Also, my "SSN was put on hold by the US Federal Government..."

It accuses me of:

"Violation of the federal bankruptcy regulation act of 1983 (C)

Theft by deception

Collateral check fraud"

The letter also stated "We carry all the rights reserved to inform the FBI, FTC, your employer and your bank about fraud".

When I called the number at the bottom of the page, Mr. Jeff Morgan, claiming to be a US Attorney answered. After several questions on my part, he stated he represents a firm who handles "cash advances" for many different companies and I took out a loan of "$400-500" and never paid it back.

He threatened to have me served with a subpeona, taken to court etc. and if I lose, I will have to pay $8,239.15 "excluding legal fees, attorney fees, etc.

Or I could pay $783 today "and only today" to stop this from him "dowloading my information to the court". When asked, he stated he is located in Seattle, WA.

I asked him if this was a joke. He stated "ma'am this is being recorded". I stated I did not care. I asked when this supposed loan was taken out, he reluctantly stated "2014".

He pressed me to choose an option 1. Get sued and go to court  2. pay him the $783. I stated "neither" and hung up.

I then contacted US Legal Services and spoke with a representative who stopped me when I said "Jeff Morgan". She stated this is fraud and is currently under investigation.  She asked me to forward her the email I received.

"Jeff Morgan" spoke with an Indian accent. When I attempted to call him back, he was "unavailable" according to another man, who also spoke with an Indian accent. I called back 2 more times and was hung up on.

This is a scam!!!  I do not think your "SSN can be put on hold". It also looked like a blanketed letter (it was not addressed specifically to me), and when I asked "Jeff Morgan" how many times he tried to contact me since this is the "Final Notice", he stuttered and stated "calls and letters".

I called him back pretending to be someone else and said I received a letter. He again told me my options. I then told him he's being investigated for fraud. He then called me a "b***h" repeatedly and blamed the American people.
