LADIES WORKOUT EXPRESS TOLD THAT DEATH WAS ONLY WAY TO CANCEL MY CONTRACT... SCAMMED BY OWNER, CRYSTAL... FREE 12 WEEK TRIAL WAS A FRAUD!!!!! SAN LEANDRO California
I signed up for a so-called FREE 12 week sauna trial in April of 2008, in which I would only have to pay the $39.98 monthly membership fee for the 12 weeks(3 months). Crystal, the owner of the Ladies Workout Express on 13754 Doolittle Dr., San Leandro, Ca, told me that weather it took me 12 weeks or 12 months to finish the trial, I would still only be responsible for the 3 payments of 39.98.
Due to the fact that I'm a full-time student, I couldn't go to the gym during my summer courses due to the intensity of the classes(I'm a nursing student). By the time I had finished my classes for the summer, I had already paid for the 12 weeks even though I had not been able to get to the gym.
In August of 2008 I started getting collections letters from National Fitness Debt collection, telling me that I was delinquent on my payments. When I told them that i was on a 12 week trial and had already paid, they told me that their files did NOT show me signed up for a trial, only a 36 month contract. I told them that the owner had lied to me and that I wanted to cancel the contract and he told me that the only thing that could get me out of the contract was DEATH, then he laughed.
I went to speak to the owner on Tuesday, 9/16/08, and told her what was going on. I told her that i just wanted to finish the 6 weeks that i had left and be done with it. She said i had to start over and pay for the trial again!!

So as of 12-23-08 I have finished my 12 week trial. From the beginning I was told that I had to come in to workout 3 times a week and do the sauna 2 times a week. However, when I found out about their Christmas schedule, that they would be open only two days that week, I asked the owner how that was going to work because the trial required 3 days a week. She told me that I could make up that day another week....WHAT!!!! It was my understanding (because that's what I was told) that I was only supposed to come for the 3 workouts and 2 saunas a week. Had I known that I could go more, I would have gone everyday (mon-sun) so I could get the hell out of that so-called gym. It also came to my attention that they may not have a permit for their facility and there ARE numerous health code violations including: holes in walls, a lot of exposed wires (in the sauna room), and there is a broken pipe (possible gas line). And their equipment was NEVER cleaned and I question the cleanliness of the sauna as well. It is a very poorly run business and it shows because it is always empty. Oh well, we'll see if in fact my membership is canceled......if not, I'm calling an attorney!!
