I took coins to Lief's Coin and Jewelry to sell. He recommended that the most valuable ones be sent to a grading service to be graded. He said it would take 2-4 weeks. I allowed him to send in four coins. I kept calling and stopping in the store but he always had answers for the delays. I could not get him to return my coins for about 4 and a half months. When he gave them to me, two were graded and two were labeled "cleaned only". The most valuable one was an uncirculated 1823 fifty cent coin. He originally said he would pay $1500 to 1800 for the coin, maybe more after grading. When he returned the coin to me he said the coin was worth about $400.
It appears to me that he delayed the return of the coins so he could purchase a coin of lessor value and switch it with mine. I think the other three coins he returned were mine but they were worth a few hundred dollars total.
I suggest that anyone dealing with Lief's Coin Shop should be very careful and not let any coins out of your sight.
