I was sitting in my bathroom opening my mail. When I open the letter a check fell out. It was for $4,988 and I almost fell in the toilet. I read further and it said that I was entitled to a preliminary prize of $250,000. My heart stopped.
Upon intitial inspection the letter seem real. The check certainly looked real. Then I real looked at the letter. The first thing I noticed was that the letter head was copied. Then the envelope which it arrived in had no return address and came from a postal area in Canada.
It gave me a phone number to call which I called. Someone answered and said that the person was in a meeting to call back in one hour. I did, but only got a a voice on the telephone.
Although I really hoped that the letter was authentic, I did further research. I went online and looked up the name of the company. I called the company to see if they had such an employee. The receptionist could not find the person in the personel database. I explained what I had and she confirmed that it was indeed a boggus check and not such person worked for this company.
My plan is to forward this letter to my Attorney General's Office. I hope they catch these criminals, before they can harm anyone else.
