Louisville Gas And Electric gave me incorrect billing information resulting in a large delinquit bill and disqualification of budget aligibility Louisville Kentucky
On April 1, 2009 I called the Louisville Gas and Electric phone bill pay line to pay my bill. I am on the budget, because I tend to have large bills, around $400 a month, over $600 if not on the budget. After I entered my account number, I was given a message that due to budget adjustments my balance was zero. I saw no reason to question this since I always pay by phone and have always been successfull at getting my bill paid with the information that was given to me by the phone bill pay service. Also, I have in the past been granted credits for budget adjustments, I had no reason to question the message.
On April 23, 2009 I called the LG&E customer service line to check and see if I would have a bill for April. I recieved a message that my account was past due and I was at risk of being dropped from the budget. The balance I owe as of today is $736.62 the amount of the credit I was told I had. I will get another bill the first week of April which will bring my total balance due to about $1200.00.
I talked to two women, one a supervisor, Ms Shalonda, who told me that it was my fault that all this happened because I chose to beleive the information that was given to me on the phone when I called to pay my bill. Well, I have always believed the phone pay information in the past when I paid my bill and things were fine when I was paying. Now that they made a mistake and gave me bad, incorrect information they want to put the blame on me. The billing department made a mistake and knew about it and did not make an effort to inform me at all. I had to find out myself almost a month later. I find this neglegent, but the message I get is "who cares! we (LG&E) are above the law because we are a large money making company with a big legal department that can make it possible for us to rip off anybody we want to, especially the little people."
I feel that no one wants to take on companies like "LG$E", because of the size and "power" they possess. I reported this insident to the BBB, but I highly doubt that anything will come of it. I am just a little no body and my life is unimportant to companies like LG$E. They want every penny they can get and try to get it any way they can. It is a shame that companies like LG$E can get away with such attrosities.
