To all of you who are reprimanding this young woman for buying this used car. I did everything that you could think of to make sure that my son's new/used car was checked out before purchase. I had it checked at the dealer as well as having all of the maintenance records from the original (one) owner. I ran a carfax to make sure that it had never been wrecked, flood damaged etc. I did everthing RIGHT and still four hours after we paid for this car it seized and needed a whole new engine. I was told however that because I bought it from and individual that I had no recourse. I was told that had I bought it from a dealer then I would have had more leverage. I GUESS THAT DEALERS ARE NOT ACCOUNTABLE EITHER! A Southeast Toyota executive told me that buying a used car is a gamble and that we should have bought new. I told him that if that was his attitude then he needed to lower the price of Toyota's. In todays economic situation I am hardpressed to pay $20,000 for a car for my 17 year old son. I guess that I should be in the car business ripping off unsuspecting consumers, then perhaps I could afford the going price for a new car! When will we as consumers stand up to the sleaze ball dealers and manufacturers and make them stand behind their products! I was thinking the other day that perhaps a horse and buggy will be my next transportation choice, that is how sick of TOYOTA DEALERS AND TOYOTA I am! Good luck to all of you looking for a car you'll need it!

Have you ever heard of the above statement? I am not saying you were not ripped off since I don't know the details, but blaming someone else because you did not check out the car is not their fault. It is the buyer's responsibility to make sure the car is what they expect it to be. As in anything else, check, check and re-check before you sign on the dotted line.

I found this report while skimming through to find something of actual importance. It seems to me this person rightfully completely pissed but also should look at it from another angle. You bought a used car. The person who had it before got rid of it for a reason. Now I can also only afford used cars but you have to be smart about it and not buy the first pretty car you see. If this car had as many problems as she says, they were probably obvious. Maybe not to someone with no experience in car repair but she could have taken it somewhere for an inspection. If the dealership had told her she wasn't allowed to then that would have been the red flag she should have seen and she could have taken her business elsewhere. The dealership cannot give you another car. I am sure if you bought it used it came with a 30 day warranty. I dont know if you noticed these problems before or after that period but the dealership still tried yo repair your car for you OR offer you another car. I dont know what you expected but this is a business just like any other place and they were doing what they could to help you out and you didn't want it. I really hate to say it but no bureau, media persons, or organizations are going to care about this. Unless you have a legitamate complaint (like your car was in the shop 3 or more times for the same repair then you could have sued under the lemon law) they hear this all too often. By the the sound of your report you are one step away from wearing a lemon costume and standing outside of their dealership. You have to be careful buying a used car. BUt you also have to be careful buying a new one. Just because a car is new doesnt mean it is exempt from car problems. I work in a service shop and I see (and hear) it all. A new navigator today needed a new engine! also people dont buy a hyndai. they may be okay now mechanically (and that is stretching it to say ok) but they have the most electrical problems ever. and godforbid you ever buy a kia. they are crap. we have stacks upon stacks of repair orders from the same car because it is a kia and crap. anyway, you've got to use your head when buying a car and do your homework ahead of time!
