I purchased a Magicjack in Aug of 2008 and from the beginning , have had nothing but problems, from the MJ itself , to the customer support staff.

Here is what has happened so far.

It was supposed to be free for thirty days but I received a $3.95 charge on my credit card from them, which shouldn't have been there but I let it go as I had better things to do with my time then chase a few bucks. Then it started, calls being dropped ALL the time, no matter what I did to correct the problem. They seem like they are guessing at best, and never seem to get the right answer to a problem.

They would always tell me to go to the Magicfix upgrade button , which never solved my problems, EVER. They didn't even know how to make it fax ( I had to tell them how to do it ) and it would come up and say" Warning , mj mst be plugged into a usb port , AND IT WAS!

It also would not even start half of the time, and when it did start, it would cut off the conversation in the middle of the call. It always cuts you off after 1 hr. no matter what, which is rude and unprofessional. Their support staff are the worst.

If you have an ongoing problem, every time you talk to them, you have to repeat EVERYTHING each time , over and over again as they don"t keep ANY records of previous calls. And if the problem is , in their opinion, a difficult one, you have to be transferred to a HIGHER level of support, which is B.S. as they don't know anymore than the first tech did in most cases. They just keep trying to tell you it is your computer that is the problem, which is not the case. I have a new computer and it works flawlessly, EXCEPT with the MJ.

They said to get a powered usb connection hub, only after 11 email conversations with them. I did this but still, it drops calls all the time and the clarity is poor most of the time.And if the usb hub worked ( which it did not ), they should have told me to try it in the first place, not after 11 conversations.

This last thing is the iceing on the crap cake. I had contemplated their 5 yr plan, which saved $40.00 total, which was worth considering, and had entered the info but not finalized the transaction as it has a clause at the end that states no refundability past that point. I was talking to a tech and told her I wasn't sure that I wanted to do it ( obviously now with good reason ) and she said no problem. She said the refund would take 3 business days which seemed reasonable.

After 12 business days, nothing showed up on my credit card. Again, I had to contact support and was told 3 more days. 5 days later, I received $59.95 credit on my card, BUT, they had charged my card tax of $4.10 for Fl which was ok, BUT, they did not refund the tax. I have transcripts of my following conversations and they all said it would be refunded in 3 days. 2 weeks later, still no refund. I talked to support today and they told me they don't refund tax money. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Nothing was EVER implemented at all and they are keeping money that is not theirs. I asked her if she thought the I.R.S. would think keeping tax money was legal and she, in her incoherant way, said they could keep it as it was legal.At this point , I could not stand the stupidity anymore and told them I was going to refer all this to the state capital for them to review and see how they felt about them stealing money they don't have a right to and then the conversation stopped at her end.I guess she couldn't think of a lie quick enough. I mean the money was supposed to be for tax on extended service that NEVER happened so how do they dare think they can just keep it.

To sum up, DO NOT get a MAGICJACK as you will have nothing but problems with equipment, staff and every other aspect of this useless junk.

They should be avoided like the plague as this kind of business practice is illegal and I will go out of my way to let the proper personnell know what they are doing and hopefully, keep other people from falling victim to their lies.

Also, keeping your computer on for the phone to work ( it has to be on ALL the time ) is like running a 300 watt light bulb so the little bit of savings gets eaten up in your electric bill as well as your computer life being shortened.

Whatever you do, DON'T get the Magic suck jack as it is truly junk in the longrun, as well as the shortrun. Trust me, you do not want to waste hrs. on the computer only to have the problems with it keep resurfacing again and again.And unless you like talking to braindead people, tech support is useless. They are like a virus you can't get rid of. After my one yr. is up ( if I even wait that long ) I will be done with this junk and go back to my old phone. At least it works!!!!!!

If you are having voice quality issues all you need to do is buy a USB port with an adapter. It takes lots of energy from the computer to make a call so when you have a powered usb you don't have to worry about the computers usage. You can buy one for under 7 bucks at EFORCITY.com
