In July of 2009 individuals from a local company came to my door selling a home security system with 2 years of monitoring by Monitronics. They sold me on a system primarily by offering a Food and Gas rebate program managed by My Free Travel (www.myfreetravel.com) that promised $50 a month for 24 months making the $42/month monitronics alarm monitoring fee effectively free. I signed up and was accepted into the rebate program in July 2009. Beginning in August of 2009 and continuing through December of 2009 I followed the prescribed process and submitted the required receipts for the program. Since that time I've only received my August rebate. Today, my December rebate submission envelopes were returned undeliverable. Logging on to the "rebate status" website at (www.groceryrebate.net) gives you the following information: "Please be advised that My Free Travel will be unable to honor any rebates redeemed on or after December 1, 2009. This is due to an extremely high response rate to the program. The responses received have far exceedd numbers anticipated by our projections and this has resulted in a shortage of funds to meet required payments. We will continue to attempt payment for any qualified rebates that have been submitted prior to December 1, 2009." There is nothing in the brochure or the Terms & Conditions informing anyone that they may (or can) arbitrarily or unilaterally cancel the program prior to the last coupon dated July 2011.
