Our story is similar to others. Simply put... we paid what we agreed to, then they try to take more.
The full story... Wife signs up for 36-month gym membership at ladies gym (Premier Ladies Fitness). Actually she likes this gym, close to home, no oglers. We move away from ladies gym. Nearest Premier "Ladies" Fitness has men working out and is about 20 minutes away. She didn't like this so she doesn't go. We keep paying monthly because "she owes" (never-mind that she could no longer get what she signed up for). The catch is we cancelled the original bank account they were taking whatever they wanted out of and were autopaying monthly from a different account and life was lovely. (Not really, we would have really liked to cancel the contract, but that was not an option without a heavy penalty.)
The problems started when they charged their $20 yearly "enhancement fee" that is hidden in their contract. We started getting harassed by National Fitness (Premier's collection agency) about this fee and they started adding late fees. After a couple months of harassment we asked for the payoff amount on the whole contract. They quoted it over the phone. We told them to put it in writing. They did, but added another fee to it. We called back about the additional fee. They sent another notice with the amount they originally quoted. We paid the $200+ to close it out and rid ourselves of these people. (It's worth noting these people said they would waive the additional fees if we would just give them our credit card or bank information... ??? because they have proven themselves trustworthy???)
Think we are done? Nope. 6 months later we get a collection notice even though we have "paid in full" to close out the contract. They want their hidden 20-buck fee for this year, and said they forgot to add it in to the amount of the payoff. We simply gave them a call and told them we asked, received, and made payment on the contract. The telemarketer said he understood but they "forgot". Three months later, they continue to harass and mail us all the while they continue to add to the charges. Thankfully, the wife thought ahead enough to mark the do not automatically renew box on the contract. And yes, we keep our paperwork and document all communication with them.
Bottom Line: We pay what we owe. I won't let you steal from me without a fight.
We are tired of their unethical threatening calls and mail. Tomorrow we put in a call to the BBB to become complaint number 87. Should have probably checked that but who does until there is a problem right? Anyway, we are open to the possibility of a class action lawsuit. It's amazing, the vaious shady business tactics they employ and get away with it. THIS NEEDS TO END.
