Well I just got screwed by Toshiba I guess like so many others, well anyway heres my story of just how I got screwed by Toshiba & Office Depot, one day there I was at Office Depot looking at office supplies and I saw this cute little Laptop which happened to be made by Toshiba, well I have this problem with compulsive buying and decided that the computer would be nice as a carry around computer so I asked if they had it in stock and of course asked about the warranty and I was told that it had a 1 year parts & labor warranty, well guess what thats not true, it actually has a limited warranty and a major component is excluded the LCD display, now what consumer would purchase a computer that has no warranty on the LCD display right, but its hidden in a way that they can say the pixels are considered cosmetic and dont really matter, image having a dot on your screen in your face every time you use your new computer, and to top this all off I sent the unit back in its factory BOX with everything that came with it and when they sent it back to me the Computer was not in its BOX and the power cord was missing so now Im stuck with a $449.00 paper weight well live and learn I guess, My advice to anyone considering the purchase of a computer, you really need to stay away from both Office Depot & Toshiba products, Office Depot will slap a sticker on the box and make like thats a return or exchange sticker with a 14 day limit, but that is the actual time Office Depot will stand behind that product after that youre on your own, really a great place to shop right .

Why has America slumped into this mess of products being made overseas well You're a great example, people like you have lowered the bar so low that poorly made products can flourish here in America, once upon a time America was second to none in workmanship and quality but with workers like you that would probably assemble things so poorly so what a screw is missing or this part is not aligned properly did you ever read a standard manufacturers warranty in your life, you know the part where it states that the manufacturer Warrants that the product will be free of any defects in parts and workmanship if not Id advise you to read it, your expectations maybe different from mine and thats why they call us individuals, see people like me will always try to raise that bar in life hows about you ? and if it was that simple to fix the pixel problem don't you think the manufacturer would have done what you advised ?

Yes Im a perfectionist and I have more than 30 computers and none have a single bad pixel, what kind of junk do you buy, thats the dumbest thing Ive ever heard that to expect something that I bought not to have defects is what you term as unreasonable, hell those manufacturers must love you LOL LOL LOL, Youre definitely someone I dont want to know or hang with people like you are called door mats

Dead Pixel? So What...

#4Consumer Comment

I don't think I own a single lcd based product that doesnt have at least 1 dead pixel on it. All three laptops have a few dead pixels, PSP has at least 5, cell phones have 1 or two on each screen. Even the old CRT Television has a dead spot or two in its version of pixels.

Do I care? No, not in the slightest. Nothings perfect.

The manufacturers don't bother covering lcd's for issues like this because people like you need to learn to be less of a stuck up perfectionist.  Do you even realize how much lower manufacturing costs would be if they didn't have people returning things because they were 110% perfect?

If the pixels were in a place that actually screwed up use, fine. Just because you notice them, big deal. Did you even bother trying running a dead pixel fixer program on it first? I bet not.

Computer was exchanged by OFFICE DEPOT

If you read my post about me asking about the warranty and was misinformed by the Office Depot sales person how would you figure it was not Office Depot fault, but thats besides the point now since they gave me a full credit and I purchased another computer and YES it was from Office Depot, see I can accept that it was just an honest mistake on the employees part, but what I can't and won't accept is the lack of responsibility of Toshiba we both know that the pixel is a sub circuit of the LCD and if the pixel does not perform its intended job it is defective, but the big problem is the consumers will accept these manufacturers decision not to cover it, I'm still pursuing Toshiba and all computer manufacturers to put in writing and not hide behind vague warranties, let the consumers know up front that they will not cover the LCD for bad pixels, they won't because knowing that the consumers will force a change and they know that, because some manufacturers will stand behind the products and they will be stuck and be forced to comply, people need to stand up for what is right and stop being sheep, make these companies take responsibility for their products.

What you should have done

Your first action should have been to take it back to the store and exchange it. That's the whole reason for our 14 day policy - if there's an issue (like stuck or dead pixels) bring it back and exchange it for a good one.

Yes, I know the manufacturer SHOULD cover the LCD. Thing is, they don't. That isn't Office Depot's fault, though, so I'm not sure why you filed this as a complaint against Office Depot. They don't cover these things, so we offer the warranty. Of course it's not free; nothing is free.

So many times I've had customers come in and argue, "Well, you make this computer, so you should fix it or give me a new one." We DON'T make the computer. Toshiba did. It's not an Office Depot employee's responsibility to go through and read you every bullet point of Toshiba's warranty, it's yours. Add to that the fact that you didn't do the research and impulsively bought a computer because it was "cute", and I don't see how you can blame Office Depot for this.

Like I said, you should have taken it back to the store. As it is, you might still be able to get an exchange on it if you go back to the store and POLITELY explain the issue to the store manager. It's probably outside the return policy, but you never know.

Oops Employee blunder 1 year parts and labor

Well I asked for the warranty information and guess what the Office Depot employee told me 1 year parts and labor, so how is it not their fault, know your product or don't work there, and why should I buy a warranty when it should come with one, maybe thats why they offer it because people are that dumb enough to purchase it, but anyway people get screwed because they don't speak up and I repair computers also so whats the big deal about that, so you know the cost of replacement, so do I and I also know that LCD's should be warrantied if you are willing to make an issue of it....

Office Depot to replace the computer

Well there are those that would purchase that offered warranty but why should I, if you understand about warranties you can always get it replaced if you know how, so thank you for your comment. And yes that seems to be how most manufacturers scam the consumers but if I can I will change that, to complain and do nothing is a waste of breath and I'm not one that waste my breath .... LOL LOL LOL

Should have bought the warranty

I don't think this really qualifies as "being screwed by Office Depot." Yeah, LCD screens aren't covered by the manufacturer's warranty - that's true, no matter which brand of laptop you buy. Manufacturer's warranties cover pretty much nothing. That's why we offer extended warranties. They cover screen replacement. I'm sure the associate that helped you mentioned it, and you probably turned it down. Luckily, you have 30 days from date of purchase to add it, so I'd recommend doing so.

Yes, I bought my laptop from Office Depot, and I fix computers for a living. Did I buy the warranty? You better believe it, since I generally charge around $400 to replace a laptop LCD. And that's cheap.
