Omnipoint, Claimed to be the IRS Threatened Arrest Detroit Nationwide
Received this, ill-conceived 'threat' via text message today. it's caller ID display reads (202) 804-1529 and gives a call-back number of (202) 505-7767. Both are D.C. area code numbers. But, that's not where this text originated! It actually, at least in part, was routed through Detroit, Michigan in Wayne County! That number is (313) 718-1545 which belongs to a company, Omnipoint Communications which has loads of complaints filed against them with the FCC. And they've apparently been doing this scam for a while. Always remember, the IRS is a government body. They would never contact you with regards to your taxes or any financial matter via e-mail, text or over the phone. They would only ever do so by post. They would also never threaten arresting nor in prisoning you - not overtly and certainly not by text/email.
