On 12-27 I was informed by PayPal that they were reversing $4,431.00 worth of payments from 4 ebay sales. The first payment dates back to September, one in November and 2 in December. The ebay buyer "brpdy201" paid for these transactions either with instant cash or an e-check.

The notification I got from PayPal is there is possible fraud involved, so they are taking back the $4,431.00. How can PayPal take back money that was cleared from someone's existing bank account? How can they have the right to freeze my money and my account? Numerous emails to them are left unanswered. They refuse to call me or contact me by way of a "real" person. I understand they have now moved from California to Nebraska. I will be contacting the federal and state authorities and the BBB.

Linda,

This response to you will probably bring a nasty e-mail from the BBB to me but it must be said.

By all means report PayPal to the BBB, but they are not the authorities. They are a business enterprise with a great racket. For a yearly fee businesses can proudly display the BBB logo of approval. The BBB will simply report your complaint to PayPal...PayPal is not required to respond.

The most important thing for you to understand is that someone has reported a fraud TO PayPal. You should go after the catalyst, not the messenger. PayPal's actions are frustrating but they are responding to a consumer complaint. It is your responsibility to demand to know what the fraud charges are. If they are unfounded then you must immediately report the catalyst for fraud. Some people want something for nothing and the
best way to do that is to claim they never received the item or that you misrepresented the item.

You know what you have to do. Start with PayPal and eBay--be professional and concerned. If the charges are unfounded then say so. Then contact the local police department in the town where the fraudster lives. They will get your money back for you.

Good Luck
The Fraud Chick

My credit card company reversed the charge, my account with paypal is CLOSED and I will NEVER give them another credit card number again!

They filed the following rebuttal to the above Rip-Off Report: Their email: [email protected] Their name: radelster Their relationship to the company: Consumer Suggestion Rebuttal: Paypal strikes again!!! I had purchased a video thru someone over the internet. They took paypal, so I opened an account with them and purchased the video. (my account was set up to direct withdraw from my checking account.) The video never showed up. I keep e-mailing the guy and he says he mailed it and if it doesn't show up he will send me another one. I finally contact paypal and send them copies of the e-mails and they tell me too bad, this person was never 'verified' so there is nothing they can do. So I go to my bank and explain the situation to them and they back out the transaction. Next month I get my credit card statement (the one paypal REQUIRES for you to open an account) and there is a charge on there from paypal for the amount I had backed out of my checking account!! I contact paypal and they claim it was insufficient funds on the checking account is why they charged my credit card!! So, I filed a dispute with my credit card company and JUSTICE PREVAILED!! My credit card company reversed the charge, my account with paypal is CLOSED and I will NEVER give them another credit card number again! I have an internet business and I REFUSE to accept paypal payments. Why? Because in order to get the money, you have to have an account, which requires a CREDIT CARD!! Paypal is a RIPOFF which does not protect the buyer!
