A man by the email
[email protected] who goes by tracy wartes supposedly out of british cameroon tried to scam me, thank God almighty i saw this site before hand.
I responded to an ad on craigslist.com in my virginia area, being an expericenced bird owner, i saw that he placed an ad stating if no one was to take his bird he would be forced to put it in a shelter, I couldnt let that happen to a Red Macaw knowing i could give it a good home. So i told him if it means not forcing the bird into a shelter ill take it in, he then wrote me back a lengthy email about how he works for NGO and studies plants in Cameroon, and that he could no longer care for the bird due to weather and job, and he would have to send the bird back to the states. he said it was fully veted and very well taken care of and what not, but said i would have to "come up" with 300$ for the bird, and i responded saying i didnt have that kind of money at this point so he offered it to me for 190$ so i told him i was considering it for that price, so he told me i would have to send him 190$ so he could book a flight for the bird through a new zealand based pet carrier ( cameroon is not near new zealand how would he be using this pet courrier?) company? and then that i might be expected to pay other fees through them. so he gave me an adress to wire the money to by the name "tracy wartes" (when his email is peterogston) i told him this does not seem legitimate that i pay you the money first then i might recieve my bird later (what assurance do i have of this? and why would he even be asking me for a fee if he first place when he said he was going to be forced to place the bird in the shelter?! arn't i doing this guy a favor by offering a great home for the animal?). i continued to tell him that a more legitimate scenario would be for him to pay the fees upfront to send the bird to a friend/relative here or shelter/holding place then when its confirmed my bird is here i would send him the money, then when that is confirmed, i would wire him the money i owed, then finally recieve the bird. so he resopnded to me saying i was confused and that he just kept telling me to come up with the 190$ first, and he will send it directly to my house after he recieved the money to "book the flight"...so i decided to research this person and found that he has been reported with the same name/email for other pet scams and real estate scams in other countries, and that he was now trying to play the trick on me! other people have reported him saying the same phrases and techniques he uses in speaking in this scam as well. such as: "hope to hear from you soon", he tries to twist words around to make you feel your the confused one, asks for money upfront, before you recieve a pet all in the name of having a busy work schedule/life. I should have figured from the beginning because his english grammar and punctuation was not the good, and he went into all this unnatural "explaining" all these reasons why the pet was worth a fee and a whole over detailed story of why he cant keep the bird, when i was responding to an ad that pretty much said he was about to dump this bird if someone didnt take it off his hands for him. Plus-
[email protected] and the name "Tracy Wartes" just dont match up you know? and from the very first email, before he told me anythign about the birds personality or gave me pictures (which when i asked for them - looked too perfect) he already was asking for the money upfront to be wired over to him in another country. So i have concluded that i have caught this famous peter ogston and im hopefully making others aware by this. We Americans are not that stupid. SOMEONE DOES NEED TO STOP THIS PERSON!! God Bless everyone, may the Lords blessing be with you, and please keep yourselves from these kinds of people! always try to check everything out and research it if possible.
