Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I rented a storage unit back in March of 2014 because I had to store my entire home that I lost due to foreclosure. I shopped many storage places and the best advertised price was Public Storage. They have a $1 1st month and 15% discount if you make your reservation online. Well 5 months later they get back from you all that savings that you thought you got.

They decided to raise the price of my storage by more then 20%. I understand that prices might need to be raised but a 20% increase is just not right, that is a considerable amount. In reality they are the most expensive storage company. They aren't really competitive if you take into considrration that the savings they advertised would be reverse thru their price increase.

I called them to discuss it but they don't really care, they just tell you it's in your contract. "We had to do it because operational cost have gone up". I know that's a lie, a 20% increase all around would mean millions upon millions in new revenue. If they were really doing this across the board there would be hundreds of pissed off customers, but there are not.

I decided to call 5 different national storage companies to ask them about their policy on raising the price of a storage unit once the owner was in it. Guess what, none of them do it and if they do it's a year after or longer.

All that Public Storage had to do was to be honest with their customers and inform them, but they are not. I would of simply gone with their competitors and I would be saving hundread of dollars a year. Public Storage should be asamed of themselvs this is in simple terms a bait and switch technique in a very creative manner.

Do yourself a favor and check all of this before you go with Public Storage as your choice, or else you are going to regret it if you dont.

It is very interesgting how you spout off this 20%(oh the horror) increase.  But fail to mention the dollar amount.  Are you talking 20% on $100 or 20% on $1000/month?    As when you spout off generalities and exagerations it makes the rest of your report totally worthless.

Well 5 months later they get back from you all that savings that you thought you got.

- Oh really?  So they made the 20% increase retroactive to March?

I know that's a lie, a 20% increase all around would mean millions upon millions in new revenue

- So you know it is a lie?  So can you please explain how you know this?  Just how many years experience have you had in running a storage business?  Where are you getting your figures to know that they are lying?   Oh and while you are giving us the detail on your experience can you please tell us what would have been an acceptable amount to raise your rent?

I decided to call 5 different national storage companies to ask them about their policy on raising the price of a storage unit once the owner was in it. Guess what, none of them do it and if they do it's a year after or longer.

- Oh really...and how about instead of calling them, how about going to them and having them point to the line in their agreement that a customer signs that states that?    Is that with a year lease?  Did PS have you sign a year lease or was it month to month?  By the way, I am not even aware that there are 5 National Chains(in addition to Public Storage)..so who did you call?  So based on this comment I guess had they raised it 20% after a year you would have been totally fine with it?

I would of simply gone with their competitors and I would be saving hundread of dollars a year.

- Oh really?  And of course you looked at the math right?

Well if not..let me help you out.  Since you gave no numbers let's say you bought a very big unit and got the intial unit at a price of $450/month(which by the way would in most areas look like it would get you a storage unit big enough for a 3-4 bedroom house).

So with that $450/month we get the following

Month 1 - $1

Months 2-6 - $450

Months 7-12 - $540(20% increase)

Grand total = $5491

Now, let's say that the competitor was charging only $460/month from month 1 for 12 months

Month 1-12 - $460

Grand Total = $5520

So with these numbers even if the other rental was only $10/month more in the beginning you would be paying an extra $29 for the year had you gone with them...so where is this hundreds of dollars in savings you are seeing?  Of course if you have some real numbers..how about posting them.

Oh and no I do not now or have I ever worked for any Storage Company.
