This was a kitchen remodel (first time in over 30 years). First, I was told that old cabinet teardown and new cabinet install would only take 2 days after new cabinets arrived. It took 3-1/2 weeks once the work started.
The new wall mounted microwave oven was installed incorrectly. Instead of using the mounting screws that came with the oven, they drilled with long screws the microwave to the new cabinet right above it. I pointed out the microwave was very clearly lop-sided. They had to take down the microwave and start over again.
By the tine the microwave was installed correctly with the mounting screws, I ended up with 2 holes in the top of the new microwave and 3 holes in the bottom of the new cabinet. I was told it did not matter because you couldn't see the holes. However, I paid good money for a new microwave and upper cabinets and that did not included all of the extra holes in them.,
When tearing down the old bottom cabinets, they rammed into our refrigerator and damaged it with a nice size dent that cannot be repaired. The sad part is the dent is the first thing you see when you walk into our new kitchen. For this unrepairable damage I was offered a "nice dinner at Olive Garden" for me and my husband since we had to deal with this damage. I told him lets just wait to see if the kitchen can be completed without any further damage. After that response, I was told the workers didn't remember doing any damage.
The final straw was installing the new counter top. They went to install and it turns out the top was cut to short! It could not be repaired....it had to be replaced with a new top. I was told that a new top would be ordered on a rush emergency status. Four days later the new top arried.
I was told in a text message that the new top would be brought over at about 8:00 am the nest morning and they would finish up the job. The new top was dropped off at approximately 8:15am and I received another text saying his guy must have over slept and he was going to go get him. We waited until 10:30am and no updates from Ray Jennings.
I sent a text to him at 10:30am and said we were not willing to wait any longer to finish our kitchen. Since he did not bother to come back or contact us on the status, I was going to call someone to come and finish the job and I would diduct the cost of the work from my final bill. He said he would pay $300.00. I told him the lowest for the new installer was going to be $400.00. Needless to say he did not like that.
The guy I hired did a great job installing the new counter top and finishing up my kitchen.
At the start of this whole project, Ray informed me he was fully covered with insurance. I told him I was going to deduct $50 for my damaged microwave, $50 for my damaged cabinet, $200 for my damaged refrigerator (which is way to low), and $400 for the installer I hired to install the new counter top since he had been a no-show, n0-contact on that install. I told him since he had damage insurance, that he needed to file for all the samage that was caused by him.
I deducted $700.00 from the final invoice. Now he keeps threatening me with slapping a lean on our home, and taking me to court. He actually said is $700 really worth a lean and court?
Ray Jennings will absolutely not hold himself responsible for any of the damages that were done. He says you can't see the holes that are there, his guys donh't remember damaging our refrigerator, and he said he agreed to pay only $300 for the counter top installation not $400.00. He will simply not take responsibility. And now only threatens us.
I do have copies of texts and emails, as well as pictures of my refrigerator.
