On June 10, 2006 I visited the Park Balboa Golf Course. I rented a set of golf clubs fron the Ready Golf Center concession. I was charged $30 for the rental fee and my credit card was rediculously authorized for $1000. On hole six of the course, upon the impact with the ball, the club's head broke of from the shaft and flew further than the ball! Having my game spoiled by this time, I returened the used set to the concession. Later the owner (Mr. Bernback) yelled at his employee over the phone and told him to charge me $239.00 for that old, depreciated club. As my credit card was authorized for $1000 and I did not want to lose that amount I signed that charge. My friends and the local Golf Marshalls agreed that the old golf club was worth no more than $40-$50. A local Golf Specialty shop estimated it to cost $40 to repair the faulty club, including a brand new shaft.
Mr. Bernback is ripping me off more than $240 for a club that is worth no more than $40. He was verbally abusive with me, while I tried talking to me. He defamed me by saying that I "don't understand the game of golf". Because I had an accent he said i did not understand him because of a "language barrier". He told me I can't keep the broken club, and that he wants me to sue him.
