In Reference to: MacMall/X2gen Promotion: CWS - LUCK OF THE IRISH REBATES PROMO $99 handled thru RebateSystems.com
I am reporting the petty practices employed by RebateSystems.com
THE STORY:
I bought an X2gen monitor thru MacMall only because of the rebate. I had no experience with your monitors, and it sounded like a good deal. It was a $99 rebate off of a $228.99 retail price.
In following the instructions on the rebate form, we included the copy of our invoice, mailed it within the time frame specified, and included the UPC barcode that was included in the package. The rebate was denied.
There were 2 issues:
A) What was inadvertently forgotten was to circle the 1) Date of Purchase, and 2) Amount of invoice.
Now to disallow the rebate on this is rather petty. Are they so incompetent as to not be able to find the date & amount on a major store invoice unless it is circled for them? This seems like one of those items intentionally placed there to provide multiple avenues to disallow a rebate.
B) They said the UPC barcode we attached was from the invoice, and not the product.
Now, if you'll read Step #3 of your Rebate form, it just says, and I quote:
"Place a copy of the UPC bar code label here:
Copy of UPC must be cut out and placed in the box provided here: "
You'll notice it does not specify which UPC bar code. How am I supposed to know the difference between bar codes, unless I own a bar code reader? To disallow a rebate on this point seems grossly unfair, as your instruction does not specify which bar code is the correct one (ie: "Bar code from monitor box", or "Not bar code from invoice", to suggest a few.) This, also, is a great fine-priint avenue to disallow a rebate.
Also, we were never contacted (via email or phone, which they had both), to let us know it was rejected. I had to call X2Gen after we had not received the rebate for many months.
I have sent about 5 emails thru their website, and all have been denied, categorically. They state they cannot accept re-submitted materials. And why is that? Is it not about the reward for purchasing their (X2gen's) products? Is that how you treat a new customer, by lying to them, and then cheating them out of their money?
I have also emailed X2gen to let them know of the shabby business practices of RebateSystems.com. I haven't heard anything back as of yet (sent over Labor Day weekend), but I will continue to contact them.
If the RipOffReport.com avenue does not produce a rebate, then I will contact the Attorney General in my state & the state in which they do business (Illinois, I believe), and will talk to my friends at CBS news (I used to do television news) to alert them to their fruadulent practices. They love stories like this.
I didn't know about Rip-Off Report.com before this incident, but this prompted me to do research, and finding you.
