I've used Safeway home delivery for several years now, so I'm well aware of their problems. First, when it's good it's great, because it's actually cheaper than going to Safeway -- not only for the time savings, but the gas savings.
It's usually not great, however.
1) Although it rarely happens, sometimes they don't show. I received no call or other notice. I was left to have to call them (calling safeway is hell, almost as bad as calling Dell or some such). No apology or explanation once you do get someone. In fact, their "customer service" gets a -10 from me, on all counts.
2) Sometimes they hire men who look & act like thugs. I know that companies are forced because of the totally unfair & anti-White "affirmative action" (i.e. prejudice against Whites) to hire these gorillas, but really -- who wants someone who looks like a thug, & can only communicate by grunting, to be delivering their groceries? This happens about 1/3 of the time.
3) Missing items that you're charged for. This happens a lot. You have to go through your receipt & check. Their latest is to charge you an outrageous fee for an item you didn't order & didn't receive (e.g. I ordered blueberries for $1.50, but was charged $5.80 -- neither was received). Also, the guys are known to leave items on the truck (in the hopes you won't remember them, or what?) You have to remember what you ordered & ask them (at least for large non-perishables like laundry detergent, kitty litter, etc.) This happens nearly every time.
4) Another thing that safeway does that's really annoying is how they simply ignore your wishes. For example, I never request substitutes but they will sub anyway -- with something that is outrageous in price (see above). This is quite simply a scam. They will also just ignore anything you write about produce, so don't even bother. I'm not that picky so I don't usually care, but it seems that they go out of their way to do the opposite of what you request. So, you'd do better to not bother & take your chances. Seems the passive-aggressive, non-English-speaking peons who are "shopping," get their kicks this way.
5) Last, but not least is the fact that you will have to email and/or call safeway about half of the time about your order because of their myriad mistakes & ripoff schemes. When you do so, you will be ignored via email (I use this method because I'm usually too busy to call). You typically have to start threatening them before they'll respond. In fact one time I even filled out a Better Business Bureau report because whole bags of groceries were missing for which I was charged, yet I was ignored.
So, in short, their "service" sucks. However, you have to decide whether the hassle of their BS is better than the hassle of grocery shopping. For me, I still end up using their deplorable service about once a month. If it were better I'd use it weekly.
