The exact same situation happened to me. A very friendly and talkative college-aged girl came to my door selling magazines to finance her drama troops trip to London to perform at Shakespeare's Theater. She also stated that her name was ANGEL GERMAIN, and she lived just a block or so away, and having come to my door on a scooter, her story made sense.
She told me that the magazines I purcahse would go to burn victim's at the Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital, and that her troop would only receive a small portion of the proceeds. Also, she told me she'd be happy to wash my car or take my dog for walks when needed as additionl gratitude for helping her out.
After two weeks had gone by without her depositing the check, I did additional research using the receipt she provided me, which was from WWW.SALESFIRSTCLASS.COM. The website provides no means of contacting the company asside from an email system. I did a simple search using the company name and ANGEL GERMAIN, and found the previous rip-off report.
Personally, unless it's girl scout's selling cookies, I'd tell any and all solicitors to go away. People feeding on the kindness of others are the lowest class of human being.
