On July 4th I went to this location to have the tires I purchased a year before balance checked due to a vibration I was getting while driving. I just wanted the balance of the tires checked, no more.

Jim was the manager that day and within a short period of time he, and the mechanic, Rafael (Ralph) had determined that I needed new brakes all around (which I needed 2, maybe), all the fluids flushed and changed (Yes, it had been awhile), and a new inner tie rod. The tires were 'balanced' when they checked. It was going to take 2 to 2.5 hours for the rest of the work.
The orginal estimate was $1,1000.00 as well. Jim had come behind the counter to see how all the charges added up on his screen as well. I said, "No, not for $1,100" but was thinking, "you're about to be conned." I asked, "how severe the inner tie rod was? Can I get it home?" Jim said, "No, I'd be concerned for your safety if you leave without replacing it. Let me do it all for $1,000 even". Jim even asked me to go into the shop and have Rafael show me the damage (pulling on the tire and there was some play). (It was determined by another mechanic a week later tha the tie rod was not in bad shape.)
I agreed, but had 'that feeling' in the my gut. Jim offered me a ride home while his person delivered the previous days receipts to corporate offices in Riverside. I accepted until I saw my replacement parts being delivered in a few minutes and said, "If it's really going to take 2.5 hours, let me stay. This was about 9:45 am. Rafael started on my fluids, etc. while other people came in for oil changes, cooling flushes, tires, etc. Rafael is meticulous about replacing parts, etc. When he finally got to the brakes around 3 pm, I noticed he took the brakes apart piece by piece, and laid them out in order on the floor, then replaced the new parts in order as well. The guy who came in shortly after me at about 8:05 am was having a cooling flush on his Volkswagen car. At about 11:30 he asked about his car and Jim said, "Oh were 10 minutes away, we're just letting it cool off to make sure everything's okay with the temperature, etc." and hour later he asked again, Jim said, "Well your car's not cooling off as it should and....). The guy said, "Just give me my car and keys and I'll drive it home and take care of that stuff later." Jim said the same thing 4 more times, "These aluminum heads are famous for cracking. You won't make it home without problems, I'd hate to see you stuck somewhere when we could have fixed this. (Let's see, why are the bells of Notre Dame going off in my head at this point.) Finally, the guy said in a sterner tone, "Give me my keys." and Jim acquiesced. Finally, at 5:15 pm my car was done, and so was I.
I was completed frustrated at myself for falling for this line of crap. I called Jim later and told him that I felt as though I let him talk me into a lot of things.
His first words were, "I don't feel I 'took' you." I said, "I never said you 'took me', those are your words.
I called the corporate number a couple days later and spoke to Chris Smith. Chris heard me out, pulled my receipt, and 'did some checking'. He also said, "I never get complaints about Jim." (I'm thinking, "Really, why do I doubt that"? I learned later that Chris and Jim have been buddies for along time.)
We played phone tag a few times and eventually Chris told me that he did find I was overcharged $96 for one of the labor costs on the brakes and would have it refunded.
